PUBLIC HOLIDAY.
WHEREAS a definitive Treaty of Peace between Her Majesty and Her Allies, and his Imperial Majesty the Emperor of all the, Russias, was concluded at Paris, on the 30th day of March last, and the ratifications thereof have been duly exchanged; His Excellency the Governor, in order to afford the inhabitants an opportunity of commemorating so propitious an event, has been pleased to direct that throughout the Province of Auckland Wednesday the 13th instant shall be observed as a Public Holiday, and that throughout each of the other Provinces of this Colony such day as the Superintendent of each Province respectively may appoint, in order to afford an opportunity of commemorating the Treaty of Peace which has been concluded between her Majesty and her Allies and his Imperial Majesty the Emperor of all the Russias—I hereby appoint that FRIDAY, the 5th day of September next, shall be observed as a Public Holiday throughout the Province of New Plymouth.

Superintendent's Office, New Plymouth,
26th August, 1856.
HIS Excellency the Governor having, by a Notice in the Government Gazette under date August 4th, directed that a Public Holiday shall be observed throughout the Province of Auckland on Wednesday the 13th instant, and throughout each of the other Provinces of this colony on such day as the Superintendent of each Province respectively may appoint, in order to afford an opportunity of commemorating the Treaty of Peace which has been concluded between her Majesty and her Allies and his Imperial Majesty the Emperor of all the Russias—I hereby appoint that FRIDAY, the 5th day of September next, shall be observed as a Public Holiday throughout the Province of New Plymouth.

IT is notified for general information that a Writ for the election of a Member of the Provincial Council for the District of the Town of New Plymouth in the room of Samuel Vickers, Esquire, resigned, having been issued in accordance with the provisions of an Act to grant a Representative Constitution to the Colony of New Zealand, the Returning Officer for the said District has returned the said Writ with a certificate to the effect that the undermentioned gentleman has been duly elected to serve as Member of the Provincial Council for the District of the Town of New Plymouth—
