PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by an Act passed in the fifteenth and sixteenth years of the Reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, intituled "An Act to grant a Representative Constitution to the Colony of New Zealand" it is amongst other things enacted that it shall be lawful for the Superintendent to prorogue the Provincial Council from time to time, whenever he shall deem it expedient to do so.

Now I, the Superintendent of the Province of New Plymouth do hereby proclaim and declare that, in exercise of the authority vested in me in that behalf by the said recited Act, I this day prorogue the Provincial Council of the said Province of New Plymouth.

Given under my hand at New Plymouth, this twenty-third day of October one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six.

NOTICE.

Council Chamber, October 23, 1856.

WHEREAS a Special Committee of the Provincial Council has been appointed at the recommendation of the House of Representatives to enquire into all alienations of land in this Province made without the authority of law. Notice is hereby given that the said committee will sit at the Council Chamber on Friday the 31st inst., at 11, where all claims in respect of such alienations will be entertained, and it is requested that all applications be made in writing and be addressed to the Chairman of the Committee.

New Plymouth, October 10, 1856.

SUBJECT to the approval of the Provincial Council of the Province of New Plymouth, the Speaker has appointed

MR RICHARD PHENEY,
provisionally, to be Clerk of the Provincial Council.

The appointment is to date from the 1st day of October instant.

ERRATA.

IN the Notice of the sale of Crown Land in the Government Gazette for the Province of New Plymouth, Vol IV, No 10, the name of Walter James Morrison is erroneously inserted as the purchaser of Section No 51, instead of Walter John Morrison.
