AN ORDINANCE

TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF THE SCOTCH THISTLE.

Analysis.

Title.
Preamble.

1.—Penalty for allowing Scotch Thistle to flower on road.
2.—New offence after conviction what shall be deemed.
3.—Penalty on occupiers of adjacent lands for allowing Thistle to flower thereon.
4.—Who shall be deemed occupiers.
5.—Lands whereon Thistle is growing may be entered upon for purpose of destroying same.
6.—Commencement of operation.

AN ORDINANCE to prevent the spread of the Scotch Thistle.

Whereas it is expedient to make provision against the spread of a noxious weed called the Scotch Thistle.

Be it enacted by the Superintendent of the Province of New Plymouth with the Advice and Consent of the Provincial Council thereof as follows:—

1.—Every occupier of Land who, after this Ordinance shall have come into operation, shall suffer the weed called Scotch Thistle to flower upon the land in his occupation, shall for every such offence forfeit and pay a penalty not exceeding the sum of £5.

2.—If any person after the expiration of seven days from his conviction for the said offence shall suffer the said weed to flower or continue in flower upon the Tenement in respect of which such his prior conviction shall have been made.
