AN ORDINANCE

TO APPROPRIATE MONEY TO THE PUBLIC SERVICE FOR THE
PROVINCE OF NEW PLYMOUTH.

An Ordinance to Appropriate Money to the Public Service for the Province of New Plymouth.

Whereas it is expedient to make provision for defraying the charge of the Provincial Government of the Province of New Plymouth for the period of three calendar months, commencing on the 1st day of January, 1854: And whereas the Superintendent of the said Province has recommended to the Provincial Council thereof to make provision for the specific services to which money is hereinafter appropriated:

Be it therefore enacted by the Superintendent of the Province of New Plymouth, with the Advice and Consent of the Provincial Council thereof:—

  1. That for defraying the charge of the Provincial Government of the said Province, for the period of three calendar months, commencing on the 1st day of January, 1854, and ending on the 31st day of March, in the same year, there may be issued and applied out of the general revenue of the said Province for the several purposes and services, and at and after the annual rates specified in the schedule to this Ordinance, the sum of one thousand and four pounds one shilling and sixpence.

Provided always that the several services specified in the said schedule under the head “Chargeable on Land Fund” shall not be provided for otherwise than out of the proceeds and profits of and attending the sale, letting, or other alienation of the Waste Lands of the Crown.

  1. That the Sums by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of New Plymouth passed in this present session of the same Council, and numbered One (1) appropriated to the several services in the schedule to such Ordinance specified, shall severally be consolidated with the sums specified in the schedule to this present Ordinance, and therein appropriated to the same or the like services; and the aggregate amount thereof shall be applicable in like manner as if the same had been by this Ordinance appropriated and granted for defraying the charge of the aforesaid services (as specified in the schedule to this Ordinance) during the period of six calendar months, commencing on the 1st day of October, 1853.

  2. That the Treasurer of the Province of New Plymouth shall issue from time to time any sum or sums of money for the purposes hereinbefore referred to, not exceeding in the whole the sums respectively specified to such persons, and in such portions as the Superintendent of the said Province of New Plymouth shall by warrant direct; and such Treasurer shall in his accounts be allowed credit for all sums paid by him in pursuance of such warrants, and the receipts of the persons to whom such sums shall have been paid, shall be to him a full discharge of the sum or sums for which such receipts shall have been given, and the amounts thereof shall be passed to his credit in account accordingly.
