IX.—That any person intending to travel with or drive cattle through the said Hundred into any adjoining Hundred, freehold or leasehold, shall give not less than twenty-four hours notice in writing, stating the number, brands, and other particulars of such stock, to the nearest Warden, who, upon being satisfied that such stock are free from disease, shall give a written authority to the owner or party in charge of such stock for driving through the said Hundred; provided always that cattle of bona fide travellers on their journey when turned out, be not considered trespassers if not more than three nights in the same neighbourhood, failing to do so, shall forfeit, and pay for every such offence, a sum not exceeding five pounds.

X.—That any sheep running upon unenclosed land in the said Hundred, shall be removed within twenty-eight days of publication of the said bye-laws, also, any cattle not being the property of freeholders, shall, if not removed within the same period, be impounded and dealt with according to law.

XI.—That sufficient power be left with the Chairman to appoint a Ranger, and the said Ranger to be paid at the rate of ten shillings per day, and two shillings and sixpence per head on all cattle over twelve months old that he finds depasturing on the said Hundred not according to these bye-laws.

XII.—That cattle shall be assessed at a fair and just rate to pay a Cattle Inspector, on condition that the electing of such Inspector be left with the public.

XIII.—All, or any of the acts authorised by these bye-laws, may be enforced by any of the Wardens, Rangers, or other person duly appointed or authorised in that behalf.

THE following bye-laws passed by the Wardens of the Oteramika Hundred have been assented to by the Waste Land Board:—

1.—No cattle of any description shall be depastured except by licence holders.

2.—No sheep shall be depastured on the unenclosed lands.

3.—No entire horse over twelve months old shall be depastured without special permission of the Wardens.

4.—No bull over six months old shall be depastured without special permission of the Wardens, and no bull shall be kept at large for a longer period than three years.

5.—All licence holders shall, on or before the 1st April, 1869, register with the nearest Warden a statement of the number of cattle and horses depastured by them, with their description, and the brands with which they are marked.

6.—Before removing cattle owners shall give notice, in writing, to the nearest Warden.

7.—Any person about to bring cattle on the run shall, one week before so doing, furnish to the nearest Warden notice in writing, with such information as shall give opportunity for inspection of the cattle.

8.—No person shall be allowed to depasture more than one head of cattle for every seven acres of land occupied by him on the Hundred.

9.—All stray cattle may be impounded.

10.—The penalty for any breach of the foregoing bye-laws shall be any sum not exceeding five pounds, to be recovered in a summary manner in accordance with the 45th clause of the “Southland Waste Lands Act, 1865.”

11.—The foregoing bye-laws shall apply to the unenclosed lands of Blocks I., II., III., IV., only of the Hundred of Oteramika.
