Postal Appointments, Legal Writ, Crown Grants




General Post Office,
Wellington, 30th January, 1867.

In virtue of the powers delegated to the Postmaster-General by His Excellency the Governor, the following appointments have been made in the Postal Service of the Colony.

John Hall.


D. McFarlane to be Postmaster at Manzie’s Ferry, from 1st January, 1867.

Alfred Clunes to be Postmaster at Orepuki, from 1st January, 1867.

VICTORIA, by the grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith, to Alexander Thomson Anson, of Invercargill, in the Province of Southland, in New Zealand, Bank Manager, and William Stuart, of the same place, Gentleman, Greeting.

WHEREAS an action is now pending in our Supreme Court of New Zealand at Invercargill aforesaid, between Joseph Sykes Webb, of Otautau, in the Province of Otago, in New Zealand, aforesaid, Merchant, and John Blacklock, of Invercargill aforesaid, Gentleman, Plaintiffs, and George Falconer Muir, late of Invercargill aforesaid, but now of parts beyond the seas, Gentleman, Defendant. And, in order that the Plaintiffs may proceed in their action, we command you, and each of you, that you do retain and keep all and singular land and hereditaments, moneys, and chattels, bills, bonds, and other property whatsoever in the custody or control of you, or either of you, at the time of the service of this Writ, belonging to the said George Falconer Muir, to you in which the said defendant shall at that time be legally or equitably entitled or otherwise beneficially interested in, and whether solely or jointly with any other person or persons, and all debts of any kind then due by you, or either of you, to the said defendant; although the same or any part thereof may become due and payable on a future day. And we further command you, that you, and each of you, in your own proper persons, be and appear before such Judge of our Supreme Court as shall be sitting in Chambers on Friday, the twelfth day of April next, at Eleven o’clock in the forenoon, and there to be examined touching the premises, and to bring and produce what shall then and there be considered of you in that behalf: and this you shall in no wise omit.

Witness: His Honor Christopher William Richmond, Judge of our Supreme Court of New Zealand, at Invercargill, this Twenty-second day of February.
