IT is hereby notified that the undermentioned members of the Southland Police Force have been appointed to act as Inspectors of Slaughter-houses, under the provisions of the “Slaughtering-House Ordinance, 1847,” for the Districts undernamed respectively:—

  • Invercargill District

    • Sergeant Michael O’Keefe, and
    • Constable Andrew Hawkeram.
  • Riverton District

    • Sergeant John William Chapman.
  • Campbelltown District

    • Sergeant William Edward Shury.
  • Winton District

    • Constable Edward Wilson.

BY-LAWS passed by the Wardens of Invercargill Hundred, and sanctioned by the Waste Lands Board:

  1. That no cattle of any description be depastured on the Invercargill Hundred without a license: Provided always that cattle and horses of bond fide travellers on their journey, when turned out to graze, be not considered trespassers if not left longer than three nights in the same neighbourhood.

  2. That no sheep or small cattle of any description be depastured on the Invercargill Hundred.

  3. That no entire horse, over twelve months old be depastured on the Invercargill Hundred without special written permission of the Wardens. Any person contravening this Clause shall be fined the full sum of Five Pounds sterling.

  4. That no bull over nine months old be depastured on the Invercargill Hundred without special permission of the Wardens. Any person contravening this Clause shall be fined the full sum of Three Pounds sterling.

  5. That all license-holders do register their brands on the brands on their cattle or horses within two months from the date of the election of Wardens, with the Warden living nearest to them.

  6. That all owners of cattle on the Hundred do give notice to the nearest Warden before removing any cattle from off the Hundred.
