PROCLAMATION
By James A. R. Menzies, Esquire,
Superintendent of the Province of Southland.
WHEREAS it is provided by the “Slaughter House Ordinance, 1847,” that it shall be lawful for His Excellency the Governor, by proclamation, to constitute and define districts for the purpose of regulating the slaughter of cattle therein; and whereas all the powers conferred on His Excellency the Governor by the aforesaid Ordinance, have been, by the “Empowering Ordinance, 1854,” conferred on the Superintendent in so far as such powers could be conferred on the Superintendent without repugnance to any of the provisions of the “Constitution Act;” and whereas it is expedient to constitute and define certain districts for the purposes of the “Slaughter House Ordinance,” within the Province of Southland;
And whereas it is expedient to alter the boundaries of the Invercargill district,
as defined in the schedule to a Proclamation dated 15th day of April, 1863, and published in the “Southland Provincial Government Gazette,” of 17th April, 1863:
Now, therefore, I, the said Superintendent, do hereby proclaim and declare that the boundaries of the district of Invercargill, as proclaimed in the “Provincial Government Gazette” aforementioned, and that the districts described in the Schedule following, shall be districts for the purpose of slaughtering cattle under the provisions of the aforesaid Ordinance, and I further declare that the provisions of the said Ordinance shall come into operation within the said districts on and after the Twentieth day of July, 1863.
