PROCLAMATION
By JAMES A. R. MENZIES, Esquire,
Superintendent of the Province of Southland.
WHEREAS His Excellency the Governor in Council has been pleased to delegate under the “Diseased Cattle Act, 1861,” to the Superintendent of the Province of Southland, the several powers vested in the Governor by the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, and 10th, sections of the said Act, subject to the Regulations contained in the Order in Council of 9th September, 1861;
Now, therefore, I, the said Superintendent in virtue of the powers vested in me, do hereby proclaim that the Inspector of Diseased Cattle at the Harbours of the Bluff and New River shall not be authorised, until further notice, to grant any certificate to land Cattle, as provided under the subsections (b and d) of section 4 of the said Act, to the owner of any Cattle imported from the Colony of Victoria; and I further appoint as Quarantine Ground for any Cattle landed under the provisions of subsection (d), section 4, the peninsula on the east side of the Bluff Harbour, known by the name of Tewai’s Point; such Quarantine Ground being bounded on the west by the Bluff Harbour, on the north by the eastern arm of the Bluff Harbour, and by a right line extending due east from its eastern extremity, until it intersects the east boundary of the Campbelltown Hundred; on the east by the east boundary of the Campbelltown Hundred, from the said point of intersection to the sea coast; on the south by the ocean; and I further appoint that any Cattle which may be landed upon such Quarantine Ground shall not be removed from thence until the owner has obtained a certificate to that effect from the said Inspector.

NOTICE is hereby given, that at a meeting for the Election of Wardens for the Invercargill Hundred, held at Mr. Barclay’s house, Long Bush, on the 3rd inst., Messrs T. Barclay, T. Hamilton, and L. Gwale, were elected as Wardens for the current year.
The following Resolution was carried:—
“That Great Cattle only be allowed to be depastured on the hundreds.”

INVERCARGILL TOWN BOARD.
Election of one Member.
IN pursuance of the Ordinance enacted by the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Otago, entitled the “Dunedin Town Board Ordinance, 1855,” and the “Port Chalmers and Invercargill Town Board Ordinance, 1859,” I, the Superintendent of the Province of Southland, do hereby appoint the Electors entitled to vote for Members for the Town of Invercargill in the Provincial Council of the Province of Southland, to assemble upon Saturday, the Ninth day of November, 1861, at 10 o’clock noon, at the Schoolhouse, Invercargill, for the purpose of electing one Member of the said Town Board of Invercargill, in the room of Mr. WILLIAM HAMMOND CLARKE, whose seat in the said Board has become vacant under the provisions of the 14th clause of the “Dunedin Town Board Ordinance, 1855.”
And I hereby appoint MATTHEW PIRON, Esq., of Invercargill, Returning Officer, to preside at the said meeting; And in the event of a Poll being demanded, I hereby appoint the polling to take place in the said Schoolhouse, on Monday the Eleventh day of November, 1861.
