PROCLAMATION.
Oamaru Harbor Board.—Appointment of Member.
By His Honor George Turnbull, Esquire, Deputy-Superintendent of the Province of Otago.
WHEREAS by Section 7 of the Oamaru Harbor Board Ordinance, 1874, it is provided that so often as any person, being a member of the Board, otherwise than as Mayor of Oamaru, shall die, resign, become incapable to act, or be removed or absent from the said Province of Otago for the space of six consecutive calendar months, it shall be the duty of the Superintendent to appoint, by proclamation in the Otago Provincial Government Gazette, another fit and proper person to be a Member of the Board in the room or stead of the person so dying, resigning, becoming incapable, or being removed or absent, as aforesaid: And whereas William Jukes Steward, Esquire, late a member of the said Board, has been elected Mayor of Oamaru;
Now therefore I, George Turnbull, Deputy-Superintendent of the Province of Otago, do hereby, under and by virtue of the power and authority vested in me by the said Ordinance, and of every other power and authority enabling me in this behalf, proclaim and appoint GEORGE SUMPTER, Esquire, of Oamaru, to be a member of the said board in place of the said William Jukes Steward.
Given under my hand, and issued under the public seal of the Province of Otago, at Dunedin, this first day of August, 1876.

to be Inspector of Slaughter-Houses, and of Cattle intended for Slaughter, for the District of Waikouiti, acting at Palmerston vice Constable Henry Royston transferred.

THE following Regulations, made by the Waste Land Board of the Province of Otago, under the provisions of the “Otago Waste Land Act, 1872,” having been approved of by His Honor the Superintendent, are now published in accordance with said Act.

REGULATIONS FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF PASTURAGE WITHIN THE HUNDRED OF MAEREWHENUA.

The Maerewhenua Hundred is computed as being capable of depasturing 500 head of small cattle.

Every person depasturing or desiring to depasture cattle upon the unfenced waste lands within any Hundred shall, on or before the first day of December in every year, furnish to the Waste Land Board a return in the form or to the effect of the Schedule hereto showing the number of acres of land owned or occupied by him, and the number, description, and brands of all cattle depastured, or intended to be depastured by him within the Hundred, and any person depasturing cattle upon any Hundred failing to make such return as aforesaid, or making a false return, shall be liable to a penalty of £20, to be recovered in a summary way.

Every license shall commence and take effect on the first day of January, and shall continue in force one year, and for such license there shall be paid to the Waste Land Board the sum of two shillings and sixpence.

Each license holder shall be at liberty to depasture, free of assessment, one head of great cattle or five sheep for every ten acres of unenclosed land owned or occupied by him within the boundaries within which cattle may be depastured in the Hundred, provided that such license holder shall prove to the satisfaction of the Board that such freehold land is within such boundaries, and is open to all cattle depastured on the Hundred.
