PROCLAMATION

Appointing a day for the First Election of a Citizen to be Mayor of the Incorporated Town of Tapanui

By His Honor James Macandrew, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Otago.

WHEREAS by the “Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance, 1865,” Amendment Ordinance, 1870,” it is amongst other things provided that it shall be lawful for the Superintendent, at any time after any Municipality shall have been proclaimed under the provisions of the Ordinance intituled “An Ordinance to amend the Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance, 1865,” by Proclamation in the Government Gazette of the Province of Otago, to appoint a day for the first election of a citizen to be Mayor of such Municipality: And whereas the town of Tapanui has been proclaimed a municipality under the provisions of the said Ordinance, and it is expedient to appoint a day for the first election of a citizen to be Mayor of the said municipality of Tapanui:

Now, therefore, I, James Macandrew, Superintendent of the said Province of Otago, do hereby proclaim and declare that I have appointed, and do hereby appoint Saturday, the 1st day of April, 1876, as and to be the day for the first election of a citizen to be Mayor of the municipality of Tapanui.

Given under my hand, and issued under the public seal of the Province of Otago, at Dunedin, this 18th day of March, 1876.

WARRANT

Appointing an officer to preside at the First Elections to be held under the Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance, 1865, for the Incorporated Town of Tapanui, in the Province of Otago.

WHEREAS the Town of Tapanui has been duly incorporated under the provisions of the “Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance, 1865:” And whereas by the 113th section of the said Ordinance it is amongst other things enacted that where no special provision is made for the conduct of the first elections under the said Ordinance it should be lawful for the Superintendent, by warrant under his hand, to appoint some fit and proper person to preside at each of such elections: Now, therefore, I, James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, in exercise of the powers vested in me by the said “Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance, 1865,” and of all other powers in anywise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby nominate and appoint

Mr. John Graham

to preside at the first election of Mayor, Councillors, and Auditors to be held under the “Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance, 1865,” for the Incorporated Town of Tapanui, in the Province of Otago.

As witness my hand, this 18th day of March, 1876.

NOTICE

Of day and place of Nomination of Candidates for the office of Mayor of the Incorporated Town of Tapanui.

WHEREAS James Macandrew, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, in exercise of the powers vested in him by the “Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance, 1865,” has, by warrant under his hand, appointed me the undersigned, John Graham, to be the person to give public notice, as by law required, of the place, day, and hour for the nomination of candidates for election to the office of Mayor, at the first election of Mayor for the Incorporated Town of Tapanui, under the said Ordinance; and to attend on the day of such nomination of candidates for such office at such first election, and to preside, do, and perform at such first election all the acts by the said Ordinance required or directed to be done by the Mayor of the said Incorporated Town of Tapanui, at the election of Mayor:

Now, therefore, I, the said John Graham, notify that Saturday, the 1st day of April, 1876, at noon, at the Town Hall, Tapanui, in the said Incorporated Town of Tapanui, is appointed for the nomination of candidates for the office of Mayor.
