IMPOUNDED, on the 14th day of July, 1875, by
W. Thomson, of Inverteil,
1 chestnut mare, both fetlocks white, no visible
brand,
owner unknown, for trespassing on turnip paddock, for
which £1 is claimed; and in default of being released the
above mare will be sold at the public pound at Balclutha,
on Friday, the 13th day of August, 1875, at twelve
o'clock noon.

IMPOUNDED, on the 19th day of July, 1875, by
John Finn,
1 black mare and foal, no visible brand,
the property of James Robby, for trespassing on the
public streets, for which seven shillings and sixpence is
claimed; and in default of being released, the above mare
and foal will be sold at the public pound at Balclutha, on
Friday, the 20th day of August, 1875, at twelve o'clock
noon.

Regulations under "The Diseased Cattle Act, 1871."

NORMANBY, Governor.
ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Dunedin, this tenth
day of May, 1875.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by the eleventh section of "The
Diseased Cattle Act, 1871," it is enacted that
it shall be lawful for the Governor, by Order in
Council, at any time after the coming into operation
of that Act, to make general regulations with respect
to all cattle whatsoever, and whether imported cattle
or not, for prescribing the fees to be taken by In-
spectors for the inspection of cattle (whether arriving
by sea or in any district), and also for the allowances
to be made to such Inspectors and for travelling
expenses:
And whereas the said Act was, by a Proclamation
made by the Governor thereunder and published in
the New Zealand Gazette, proclaimed to come into
force in the said Colony on the fourteenth day of
August, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
two:
And whereas by the said Act it is further enacted,
that in and by any such regulations as aforesaid it
shall be lawful for the Governor to prescribe
penalties for the breach thereof as in the said Act
mentioned:
And whereas by the third section of "The Dis-
eased Cattle Act Amendment Act, 1873," it is
enacted that the term "cattle" in the firstly in part
recited Act mentioned, shall for the purposes thereof,
and for that Act, extend to and include as well the
animals in the said Act mentioned, as also horses,
sheep, goats, swine, and such other animals as the
Governor in Council shall from time to time declare
subject to the said Act and the Act now in recital
and such term shall apply to all animals in the said
Act or in the said Act now in recital mentioned, whether
the same shall be living or dead, and shall include
the hides, skins, hair, horns, hoofs, offal, or other
parts of such animals:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of
the Colony of New Zealand, with the advice and
consent of the Executive Council thereof, and in
exercise and pursuance of all powers and authorities
enabling him in this behalf, doth hereby make the
following general regulations; and with the like
advice and consent as aforesaid, and in exercise and
pursuance of the powers and authorities aforesaid,
doth order and declare that the regulations hereby
made shall come into force on the first day of July
next, and that thereafter such regulations shall take
effect and come into operation.

Regulations.

  1. The following fees shall be taken and levied by
    the Inspector of each district defined under "The
    Diseased Cattle Act, 1871," for the inspection of
    cattle of the several kinds hereinafter mentioned
    (whether arriving by sea or in any district), viz.:—
    £ s. d.
    For the inspection of every bull, cow, ox,
    heifer, calf, and horse (per head) ... 0 2 6
    For the inspection of every sheep, goat,
    and swine (per head) ... 0 0 6

  2. Every such fee shall be paid and payable to the
    Inspector by the owner of the cattle inspected under
    the provisions of the said Act and these regulations,
    or by the person having actual charge of such cattle,
    upon demand made for that purpose by or on behalf
    of the Inspector; and no certificate or other docu-
    ment which the inspector may be authorised to give,
    make, or execute in respect of such inspection, shall
    be made or given until the fee or fees payable
    under these regulations shall have been paid as
    aforesaid.

  3. If any person liable to pay any such fee as
    aforesaid shall refuse or neglect to pay the same in
    accordance with these regulations he shall be liable
    to pay a penalty of £10, to be recovered in manner
    by the said Act provided: Provided that any Resi-
    dent Magistrate or any two Justices of the
    Peace before whom any such penalty is sought to be
    recovered, may order such part only of such penalty
    to be paid as he or they shall think fit.

  4. The allowances to be made to such Inspectors
    as aforesaid as and for travelling expenses, shall be
    made upon the following scale, viz.,—
    £ s. d.
    Where the Inspector shall be required to
    travel from his usual place of abode a
    distance exceeding two miles and not
    exceeding ten miles; for each mile
    beyond the first two, one way, ... 0 2 6
    Exceeding ten and not exceeding twenty
    miles, one way ... 0 1 6
    Exceeding twenty miles and upwards one
    way ... 0 1 6

  5. Until further order shall be made in that be-
    half the above regulations shall be in force only
    within the District of Auckland.
