town a fire in any open place, or in the open air, unless
such fire be made and kept in a chimney securely screened
and fenced from the action of the wind, and which
shall hereafter in all times be kept in full repair,
in the building or place approved by the said Council
of the Town of Arrowtown, or by the Town Clerk
or Mayor thereof, or by a duly appointed town sur-
veyor and the Mayor thereof for the time being, or under
a permission signed by the Mayor and two Councillors in
office for the period thereof.
44th. No person shall be at liberty to throw out live
ashes, fire or coals, in an inflammable state whether of
wood or coals.
45th. As soon as the owner or driver of any packhorse
shall have completed the loading of his animals, he shall
within a reasonable time remove the same from the public
streets,and in no wise suffer said horses or animals to
loiter about the streets or be fastened up therein.
BYE-LAW NO. 3.
TO PROVIDE FOR THE MORE EFFECTUAL DRAINAGE OF
THE TOWN OF ARROWTOWN.
Whereas it is expedient to provide for the more
effectual drainage of the Town of Arrowtown; be
it therefore ordered and directed by the Council of
the Town of Arrowtown, that from and after the
day on which this Bye-law shall come into opera-
tion, the following regulations shall be in force
within the said Town of Arrowtown:—
That any person under an order signed by the Mayor
or Town Clerk shall be allowed to enter upon any land
or premises on the Town of Arrowtown, (a notice to that
effect under the hand of the Town Clerk having
been served at least one week previously on the occupier
or owner of such land or premises) for the purpose of
carrying through such land or premises any main or sub-
main sewer or drain that may in the opinion of the town
surveyor be required, and any person offering any ob-
struction in the execution of such work, shall be subject
to a penalty for every such offence of the sum of two
pounds (£2) to the Corporation of the Town of Arrow-
town; provided that the land or premises so entered upon
shall be restored as nearly as possible to the same state
as before the construction of such drain.
BYE-LAW NO. 4.
TO PROVIDE FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND REGULATION OF
PRIVATE DRAINS IN THE TOWN OF ARROWTOWN
Whereas it is expedient to provide for the construction
and regulation of private drains in the Town of
Arrowtown: Be it therefore ordered and directed
by the Council of the Town of Arrowtown, that
from and after the day on which this bye-law
shall come into operation the following regulations
shall be in force within the said Town of Arrow-
town:—
The occupier or owner of any section, or part of a sec-
tion, in the said Town of Arrowtown, shall, upon
receiving notice under the hand of the Mayor or Town
Clerk to that effect, within one month from the date of
such notice, construct, or cause to be constructed a side
drain together with a cesspool or grating, in accordance
with the plan furnished by the Town Surveyor, or
under his direction, and cause such drains to communi-
cate with any main drain or submain drain as may be
required after the expiration of such notice; the Council
shall have power to have the same constructed at the sole
cost and expense of the such occupier or owner; such
cost or expense to be recovered in a summary way in the
Magistrate\'s Court at Arrowtown, and any person or
persons obstructing the execution of such work shall for-
feit and pay a sum not exceeding two pounds (£2). Such
cesspool shall be emptied and cleansed at such times as
may be required by the Inspector of Nuisances, subject
to the life before mentioned fine.
The foregoing Bye-laws were read and passed by the
Town Council of Arrowtown at a Special Meeting, held
on Tuesday, the 2nd day of March, 1875, and the common
seal of the said Council was affixed on the twenty-third
day of March, 1875.

KURI BUSH ROAD BOARD.
TENDERS will be received by the undersigned until
noon of Saturday, 22nd May, 1875, for certain
works at Quills Hill, including formation, side, and block
cutting.

NORTH-EAST VALLEY ROAD DISTRICT.
TENDERS are invited to supply 1000 yards of good
2½-inch Road Metal, and spread the same on the
West Harbour Road, lower end, at per yard.
A SEPARATE TENDER will be received to form
5 chains, more or less, on the Beach Road, below
St. Leonards. The work will be pointed out to contrac-
tors on Tuesday, the 8th day of June, at 11 a.m.
TENDERS are also invited to supply and spread 250
yards, more or less, of 5-inch stone spalls for No. 8
Road, Pine Hill. Specifications for the above at Cattle
Market Hotel, North-East Valley.
TENDERS will be received for fencing the New Road
on section 18, block X. (Mr. Reid\'s section), with a
sheep proof fence, at per chain. Specification for fencing
at Mr. Thomas Brown\'s, North-East Valley.
Tenders for any of the above works to be left at Valley
School-house, on or before the 12th June, at 2 p.m.

MEETINGS of Ratepayers qualified to vote, will be
held as under, to nominate Candidates for election
to fill four vacancies in the District Road Board:
Harlington Subdivision—At Sawyer\'s Bay Schoolhouse,
on Wednesday, 26th May, at 12 noon.
Signal Hill Subdivision—At North-East Valley School
House, on Thursday, 27th May, at 12 noon.
Pine Hill Subdivision—At Cattle Market Hotel, on
Friday, 28th May, at 12 noon.
Should a poll be demanded in any Subdivision, the
election will take place at the above-mentioned polling
place, on Thursday, the 10th day of June, from 10 a.m.
till 4 p.m.

and Spreading 200 yards Beach Gravel, on Beach Road
at North-East Harbour. Particulars obtained from Mr.
Hooper, Dunedin, or Mr. Hunter, North-East Harbour,
