UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO.

THE Session for 1875 will be opened on Tuesday, the 4th of May. The Matriculation Examination will be held on the 1st and 3rd, commencing at 10 a.m.

FACULTY OF ARTS.

Classics, English Language and Literature—Professor SALE, M.A.

Mathematics and Natural Philosophy — Professor SHAND, M.A.

Mental and Moral Philosophy and Political Economy—Professor MACGREGOR, M.A.

FACULTY OF MEDICINE.

In this Faculty, Lectures will be delivered during the Session on the following subjects, which will count for a medicus annus in the Medical Schools of the Home Country, viz.:—

I. Anatomy, General and Descriptive, Anatomical Demonstrations; Practical Anatomy and Anatomical Dissections — Professor COUGHTREY, M.B., C.M.

II. Chemistry, Theoretical and Practical — Professor BLACK, M.A., D.Sc.

III. Natural History—Captain HUTTON, F.G.S., C.M.Z.S.

The arrangements for the second year of this course will be published when complete.

UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO.

SCOTT SCHOLARSHIP.

THE Competition for the Scott Scholarship will take place on the 1st of May.

The subjects for examination will be as follow:—

I. English, to which special prominence will be given.

II. Latin.

III. Arithmetic.

In addition to the above, each candidate will also be examined in not more than two of the following voluntary subjects:—Greek, one Modern Language, Geometry and Algebra, Chemistry and Physical Science, Geography and History.

The Scholarship is tenable for three years, and of the value of £20 per annum.

The names of competitors must be sent to the Registrar on or before the 28th of April, together with a notification of the voluntary subjects selected. 2—14s

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN,—That the road leading from the Otakia Quarry Reserve to the Main South Road, and passing through the Otakia School play-ground, in front of the School-house, will be closed on and after the 11th day of April, 1875.

EDUCATION MEETINGS.

IN consequence of no School Committee having been elected for the following mentioned districts on the 11th of January, His Honor the Superintendent has appointed a meeting of the Owners and Occupiers of land and Householders of each district, to be held in the Schoolhouse, on Monday, the 5th at 7 o'clock p.m., to elect a School Committee for the current year.

TENDERS WANTED by the Portobello Road Board for the following works:—

Sandymount Sub-division.

Cutting an embankment on Scalpoint road. Plans and specifications to be seen at the house of Mr. George Boyles, Scalpoint road; also at Mr. Edward Campbell's, surveyor, Woodhaugh Sawmills, Water of Leith, Dunedin. Mr. Boyles will show the work to contractors on Wednesday, the 31st of March, at one o'clock.

Broadbay Sub-division.

Contract No. 1.—Formation on Rutherford and Elles's road. Specifications may be seen at the house of Mr. Robert Dick, who will show contractors the works at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 30.

Contract No. 2.—Larnach road, near Mr. L'ennan's, about fourteen chains of formation.

Contract No. 3.—Larnach road, near Mr. T. Allan's, about three chains of formation.

Contract No. 4.—Larnach road, near Mr. G. Anderson's, new culvert and repairs. Specifications with Mr. William Anderson, who will show the work, meeting the contractors at Mr. L'ennan's upper gate, at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30.

Tenders must be lodged with the Chairman not later than noon on Saturday, 2nd April, 1875.
