B Y E - L A W S , M A B E L H U N D R E D , 1874.

  1. That no cattle of any description be depastured on the Mabel Hundred without a license.

  2. No entire horse over twelve months old, and no bulls over six months old, shall be depastured, without special permission of the Wardens.

  3. That no person shall be allowed to depasture on the Hundred more than one head of great cattle for every (4) four acres, and one head small cattle to (100) one hundred acres; and that all cattle depastured must be branded with the registered brands of the license-holders.

  4. All stray cattle may be impounded, and the Wardens will not be responsible for any mistakes which may arise through cattle not bearing brands according to the Cattle Branding Ordinance.

  5. All license-holders shall, on or before the 8th of May, 1874, give in a written statement to the Ranger, Mr. George Hahn, of the number of cattle and horses depastured by them on said Hundred.

  6. The penalty for any breach of the foregoing Bye-laws shall be any sum not exceeding £5 sterling.

B Y E - L A W S of Wardens of Jacob’s River Hundred for the year 1874, passed at meeting of 7th March 1874:

  1. That no cattle of any description be depastured on the Jacob’s River Hundred without a license.

  2. That no person shall be allowed to depasture more than one sheep for every 200 acres of land occupied by him.

  3. No entire horse over twelve months old, and no bull over six months old, or bull stag, shall be depastured without special permission of Wardens.

  4. That no person shall be allowed to depasture on the Hundred more than one head of cattle for every six (6) acres of land in his occupation; and that all cattle depastured must be branded with the registered brand of the license holder.

  5. All stray cattle or sheep may be impounded, and the Wardens will not be responsible for any mistakes which may arise through cattle not bearing brands according to the Cattle Branding Ordinance.

  6. All license holders shall, on or before the 10th of April, 1874, give in a written statement to the nearest Warden of the number of cattle and horses depastured by them on said Hundred; also their acreage and brands.

  7. Any person harassing or driving stock (not his own property) a greater distance than is necessary to separate his own from that of any other person shall be liable to any penalty not exceeding five pounds; and such stock must be returned to the place from whence they were taken.

  8. No cattle to be removed from the Hundred without giving notice to the nearest Warden.

  9. The penalty for any breach of the foregoing Bye-Laws shall be any sum not exceeding five pounds (£5) sterling.

One light Strawberry Cow, branded like JS, with Calf at foot,

Also, One White Bull Calf, branded like ☞ off Rump

Owner unknown, for trespassing on her paddock, and damaging potato crop, for which no damage is claimed, and in default of being released, the above cattle will be sold at the public pound at Hayes Lake, on Friday, the 15th day of May, 1874, at 12 o’clock noon.

Two red and white working bullocks, one of them with no visible brand; the other with off ear marked, branded like IB off rump; short tail.

Owner unknown, for trespassing on the streets of Invercargill, for which no damages are claimed; and in default of being released, the above cattle will be sold at the public Pound, Invercargill, on Friday, the 8th day of May, 1874, at twelve o’clock noon.

Owner unknown, for trespassing on Deep Dell Station, for which the sum of one shilling and sixpence is claimed; and in default of being released, the above cattle will be sold at the public Pound at Macraes, on Friday, the 22nd day of May, 1874, at twelve o’clock noon.

EAST TAIERI POUND.—The dark bay horse advertised in last week’s Gazette, should have been Dark Bay Cob, black points, shed all round, and collar marked, branded CH near shoulder.
