SCHOLARSHIPS.

THERE are offered for Competition, to Students intending to study for the Ministry of the Presbyterian Church,

TWO Scholarships, tenable for three years, of the annual value of £25 and £15, respectively, to be competed for by students entering on their University course; and

ONE Scholarship, tenable for two years, of the annual value of £25, to be competed for by second year students.

The subjects of examination for the first two scholarships are:— 1. Arithmetic. 2. English Grammar and Analysis. 3. Mathematics: Euclid, Book I. 4. English History: period between French Revolution and Accession of Queen Victoria. 5. Latin: De Amicitia. 6. Greek: Grammar. 7. Scripture Knowledge: Genesis and Acts.

The subjects for the last-mentioned scholarship are:—

  1. Mathematics: Euclid, Books I. and II. 2. Algebra up to Quadratics. 3. English History and Literature: period 1689—1727. 4. Roman History: first century. 5. Latin: Eneid Book VI. 6. Greek: Anabasis Book II. 7. Scripture Knowledge: Genesis and Acts.

The competition will take place in the Class-room of Knox Church, on the 29th and 30th April, at 10 a.m. Intending competitors will please give early notice of their intention to E. B. Cargill, Esq., and also forward certificates of character from their respective ministers.


SUPREME COURT CIRCUIT SITTINGS.

NOTICE is hereby Given, that a Circuit Sitting of the Supreme Court for the despatch of Criminal Business will be holden at the Court House at Lawrence, on Tuesday, the seventeenth day of March next, at the hour of ten o'clock in the forenoon; at which time and place all persons bound by recognizances or otherwise to appear as prosecutors, defendants, or witnesses are required to give their attendance.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Thomas Thomson, Esq., of Campbelltown; William Sinclair Toogood, Esq., of Kingston; and James Walden, Esq., of Campbelltown, Otago, to be Justices of the Peace for the Colony.

ABSTRACTS from previous Gazettes of Impounding Notices

Friday, 6th March, at noon.

A horse will be sold at East Taieri Pound.
A gelding will be sold at Otakia Pound.
A horse will be sold at Macraes Pound.

IMPOUNDED on February 14th, 1874, by Mr. Daniel Hanlon, farmer, Waikerikeri Valley:

1 chestnut gelding, brands like C near shoulder, hind feet white blaze.
For which five shillings driving expenses is claimed, and in default of the above gelding being released, he will be sold on Friday, the 13th day of March, 1874, at the Leaning Rock, Clyde Pound, at 12 o'clock noon.

IMPOUNDED on the 18th day of February, 1874, by James Logan, Greenvale Station:

1 chestnut mare, blaze in face, branded S near thigh, D off shoulder, saddle and collar marked, supposed to belong to John Patterson, Waikeri Flat, for trespassing on Greenvale Station, for which five shillings driving expenses is claimed, and in default of being released, the above mare will be sold at the public Pound at Glenkenich, on Friday, the 13th day of March 1874, at 12 o'clock noon.

IMPOUNDED on the 20th day of February, 1874, by R. Bain, ranger:

1 black or dark brown mare, branded like 11 2 near shoulder.
1 light gray horse, branded like 23 or 25 off ribs, also branded on near ribs not legible, lame on near fore leg.
Owner unknown, for trespassing on the Town Belt; and in default of being released, the above cattle will be sold at the public Pound at South Dunedin, on Friday, the 13th day of March, 1874, at twelve o'clock.

CORPORATION OF CROMWELL.

PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given that the Assessment of the rateable property within the municipality, for the municipal year 1873-4, has been duly allowed, and the same is deposited and may be inspected at the office of the Town Clerk, by any person interested therein, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.

Any person desiring to appeal against such assessment, must do so within 10 days from publication of this notice.
