EDUCATION RESERVES, SOUTHLAND.

APPLICATIONS will be received by Mr. John H. Baker, Survey Office, Invercargill, from persons wishing to lease any of the Reserves as formerly advertised.

Copies of the Otago Regulations, and conditions for the Leasing of Education Reserves, can be obtained from Mr. Baker, Invercargill.

GREY Road District.—Ratepayers in the above-named district are requested to take notice that the authorised rates for the current year are now payable to the undersigned at Greytown School-house.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Palmerston District Road Board intend to levy a general district rate of one shilling in the pound on the annual value on all property throughout the district for the current year ending 30th June 1874. Objectors (if any) must lodge their objections in writing, within 30 days from date at the house of the Clerk, which will be heard at a special meeting at the North Western Hotel, on the third Wednesday in January, 1874. 12 o’clock, noon.

The Rate books are open for inspection at the house of the Clerk.

NOTICE.—The Peninsula District Road Board having authorised a general road rate for the year 1873-74, all ratepayers in that district are requested to pay their rates to me previous to the third day of January, 1874. Rates can be paid to me on any lawful day but Saturday. All rates unpaid after that date will be recovered by legal process.

BALCLUTHA POUND.—The bay filly advertised impounded by Peter Hunter, branded like M near shoulder, appears more like A1 near shoulder.

LOST.—One dark bay filly, branded M C near shoulder; also one dark chestnut filly, branded M C near shoulder. They were seen at Waipori township early in this month.

£5 reward will be given on their delivery to Mr F. Oudaille, Havelock, or £4 on delivery to Mr R. Cotton, Waipori Hotel, Waipori.

AMENDED NOTICE.

WHALING BONUS, £500.

The Provincial Government will pay £350 by way of Bonus to the first vessel which leaves the Province fully equipped for a whaling cruise; also £250 on her returning to the Province with a cargo of oil: Provided that such vessel is owned in, and hails from, a port within the Province. Vessel not to be under 150 tons. Provided also that she carries at least five boys as apprentices. Bonus will be paid on production of certificate from the Harbor Master that these provisions have been complied with.

Now therefore I, Sir James Fergusson, Baronet, the Governor of New Zealand, in pursuance of the power and authority in me vested by the said Act, do hereby appoint the following places to be additional polling places for the district of Clutha, for the election of Members of the Provincial Council of the Province of Otago, namely, —

The School House, Waiwera.
