PROCLAMATION

Appointing temporary reserve for Coal Field in the South-West District of the Province of Otago.

By His Honor James Macandrew, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Otago.

WHEREAS by the “Southland Waste Land Act 1865” it is provided that the Superintendent may, if the Provincial Council be not then sitting, temporarily reserve land for public purposes:

Now, therefore, I, James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, by virtue and in exercise of the powers in this behalf vested in me by the said “Southland Waste Land Act 1865” and “Amendment Act 1867,” do hereby declare the following land temporarily reserved for the purpose of raising coal:—

All that parcel of Crown Land in the Wairoa, Wairiki, and Takitimo Districts, containing by estimation seventy thousand (70,000) acres, more or less, exclusive of all land sold, reserved, or otherwise appropriated, before the 1st day of May, 1873, and bounded on the south by a line from the south-west corner of Wrey’s Bush Township to Trig. D on the Wairio Hill, 48,600 links; and by a line from Trig. D to the junction of the Morley with the Orawia, 51,203 links; on the south-west by a line from the junction of the Morley with the Orawia to Trig. S, Waiau District, 82,400 links; on the west by a line from Trig. S, cutting Trig. M, to Waicoe Stream, 280 chains; on the north by Waicoe Stream, 150 chains; on the north-east by N.E. boundary of Run 166A, Takitimo District, 350 chains; and by the Wairaki River, 100 chains; on the north by a line running from Wairaki to Trig. G., at a bearing of 110 deg., 970 chains; and by a line from Trig. G. to south corner of section 7, thence by section 18 to Aparima River; on the east by the Aparima River to the south boundary of Township, thence by south boundary of township to starting point. All the measurements being approximate.

Appointing temporary reserve for the purpose of a Township and Quarantine Ground in the Mataura Hundred, South-West District of the Province of Otago.

By His Honor John Theodore Thomas Boyd, Esquire, Deputy-Superintendent of the Province of Otago.

WHEREAS by the “Southland Waste Land Act 1865,” it is provided that the Superintendent may, if the Provincial Council be not then sitting, temporarily reserve land for public purposes:

Now, therefore, J. John Theodore Thomas Boyd, Esquire, Deputy-Superintendent of the Province of Otago, by virtue and in exercise of the powers in this behalf vested in me by the said “Southland Waste Land Act 1865” and “Amendment Act 1867,” do hereby declare the following land temporarily reserved for the purpose of a Township and Quarantine Ground, viz.:—

All that piece or parcel of land in the hands of the Crown, and known as the unsold portion of Block IV, Mataura Hundred: bounded on the west by a public road, 11,890 links, 6,067 links, and 5,791 links; on the south by the south boundary of Mataura Hundred, 5,800 links; on the east by the Mataura River, 27,100 links; and on the north-east by a public road, 4,700 links, and 614 links: as the same is delineated on the maps in the Survey Office, and containing 1,229 acres, more or less.

Given under my hand at Dunedin, this fourth day of August, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-three.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION

In conformity to the 29th section of the “Gold Fields Act 1866,” and to the Regulations made under that Act, and the Gold Fields Acts Amendment Acts of 1867, 1868, and 1869, for the granting of leases, for gold mining purposes within the Province of Otago, it is hereby notified that it is intended to grant a lease for gold mining purposes of Crown Lands to the applicant specified in the annexed Schedule, unless there shall be valid objections against granting such lease.

Objections to the granting of such lease, stating the grounds of objection, must be made in writing and lodged with the Warden at St Bathans, on or before the 12th day of August, 1873.

Copy of the application made, and plans annexed, may be seen at the Warden’s Office at St Bathans.

Given under my hand, at Dunedin, this 5th day of August, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-three.

SCHEDULE

John Johnston and others, on behalf of the Port Madoe Company, for two acres of land, more or less, as the same may be found after survey to be within the pegs and trenches of the applicants, situated at Walsham’s Gully, adjoining present lease of said Company.
