WARDENS, NEW RIVER HUNDRED.

The undernamed owners or occupiers of land in the New River hundred, were elected Wardens for the current year, on the 20th inst.:

BYE-LAWS passed by Wardens of the Forest Hill hundred, 18th Feb., 1873.

  1. That no cattle or horses of any description be depastured on the Crown lands of Forest Hill hundred without license, provided always that cattle and horses of bona fide travellers on their journey when turned out, be not considered trespassers if not longer than two nights in the same neighbourhood.

  2. That all persons not being licensed to depasture stock on the Forest Hill hundred, remove their cattle and horses within twenty-eight days of the publication of this notice.

  3. That no sheep or small cattle of any kind be depastured on the Crown lands of the Forest Hill hundred, and that sheep travelling through the district be treated as trespassers, if found without a shepherd or if camped for the night within five miles of the previous night’s camping ground.

  4. That no entire horse over twelve months old be depastured on the Crown lands within the hundred, and that no bull or bull-calf shall be allowed to run thereon after fourteen days’ notice in that effect has been given in writing to the owner thereof by the Wardens.

  5. That no person shall be allowed to depasture on the Crown lands of the hundred more than one head of cattle to three acres, or otherwise one horse every nine acres of land in his occupation, and that all cattle or horses so depastured must bear the registered brand of the licensee-holder.

  6. That all stray cattle or horses impounded in conformity with any of the foregoing Bye-laws may be impounded, and that the Wardens will not be responsible for any mistakes which may arise through cattle not bearing brands, according to the “Cattle Branding Ordinance.”

  7. That the penalty for any breach of the foregoing Bye-laws be any sum not exceeding five pounds sterling, to be recovered in a summary way, according to the 46th clause of the Land Regulations.

  8. That all persons entitled to depasture cattle or horses within the Forest Hill hundred, shall within twenty-eight days transmit a return of their brands, stock and acreage to the Chairman, failing which the Wardens will not be responsible for any mistakes that may occur.
