PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

In conformity to the 29th section of the "Gold Fields Act 1866" and to the Regulations made under that Act and the Gold Fields Acts Amendment Acts of 1867, 1868, and 1869, for the granting of leases for gold mining purposes within the Province of Otago, it is hereby notified that it is intended to grant a lease for gold mining purposes of Crown Lands to the applicants specified in the annexed Schedule, unless there be valid objections against granting such lease.

Objections to the granting of such lease, stating the grounds of objection, must be made in writing and lodged with the Warden at Queenstown, on or before the 24th day of January, 1873.

Copy of the application make, and plans annexed, may be seen at the Warden's Office at Queenstown.

Given under my hand, this 20th day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-three.

SCHEDULE.

George Kirk, for the Golden Gate Gold Mining Company, for ten acres of land more or less, as the same may be found after survey to be contained within the pegs and trenches of the applicants, situated on Londonderry Terrace, Upper Shotover.


His Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that he has appointed

Constable Alexander Henderson,
to be Inspector of Slaughter Yards for Dunedin District, vice Constable Creagh transferred to Waikouaiti.

EDUCATION BOARD.

The Statutory half-yearly meeting of the Education Board will be held at the Government Offices, Dunedin, on Thursday, the 30th day of January, 1873, at noon.

CLUTHA COAL FIELD.

FRIDAY, 24th January, 1873.

TENDERS will be received at the Provincial Government Offices, Dunedin, until noon of Friday, 24th January, 1873, from parties willing to lease the Clutha Coal Fields and plant connected therewith, for the term of seven years. Tenders to state the amount of rent per annum, payable half-yearly in advance.

A list of the plant can be seen at the Office of the Secretary for Land and Works, Dunedin, and at the Police Station, Balclutha.

For further information apply at the Office of the Secretary for Land and Works, Dunedin.

The Government does not bind itself to accept the lowest or any tender.


CLOSING ROADS.

NOTICE is hereby given that objections having been lodged with me against the shutting up of certain road lines included in the Roads Diversion Ordinance 1872, situate in the Districts of Blue Mountain, Beaconsfield, Chelsea, Cranbourne, Coombe Hay, Goodwood, Highcliffe, Harewood, Kaikorai, Lawrence, Lovell’s Brook, Meadowbank, Sandymount, Roslyn, Waihola West, road line at Botanical Gardens, a special meeting of the Executive Council will be held in the Government Buildings, Dunedin, on Tuesday, the 25th day of February, at noon, for the purpose of deciding the said objections, when parties interested are invited to be present.

THE immediate attention of the Chairman of the District Road Boards is requested to the following letter, addressed to them on the 17th December last by the Provincial Treasurer:—

"Sir,—I have the honor to request that you will be good enough to inform me what amount is likely to be raised by the Road Board by rates prior to the 31st March, 1873, in order that I may be in a position to arrange for the distribution of the Subsidy voted by the General and Provincial Governments respectively."


TENDERS

TENDERS will be received at the office of the Secretary for Works until noon of Tuesday, 28th January, 1873, for Contract No. 703—Construction of Timber Bridge over the Pomahaka Stream, on road Waipahi to Tapanui.

Plans and specifications may be seen, and forms of tender obtained, at the office of the Engineer of Roads and Works, Dunedin, and at Police Camp, Tapanui.

Tenders to be endorsed "Roads and Works tender for contract No. 703."

The Government does not undertake to accept the lowest or any tender.
