NOTICE.—Ratepayers in the Peninsula Road District having any objections to the amount of their assessment are requested to state their objections in writing and lodge them with the clerk, on or before the 28th December instant, when the board will meet at noon, and hear objectors in support of their objections at 2 o’clock p.m.—JOHN H. NOTICE:—The Hampden Road Board having decided to levy a general rate of one shilling (1s.) in the pound on all rateable property within the district for the year ending June 30th 1873, notice is hereby given that the rate roll will lie for inspection by ratepayers at the store of Mr. P. F. Stoddart, Hampden. All objections to the above rate must be lodged with the Clerk on or before the 26th December. Notice is also given that a special meeting of the Road Board will be held on Wednesday, the 8th January, 1873, at 1 o’clock p.m., at the Mechanics’ Institute, Hampden, for the purpose of hearing objections.—PETER W. PORTOBELLO Road District.—Notice.—The Road Rate being now due in the above-named district, Ratepayers are requested to pay the amount of their respective rates to me, at my house, before the 20th of December instant, otherwise legal proceedings will be instituted for the recovery of the same. For the convenience of Ratepayers the Collector will attend at the house of Mr Peter Carmichael, Sandymount, on Thursday, the 19th instant, from 1 to 4 p.m., and at the house of Mr William Allen, Portobello, Broad Bay, on Friday, the 20th instant, from 1 to 4 p.m., and at the Portobello School House, on Saturday, the 21st instant, from 1 to 4 p.m.—GEORGE J. SUPREME COURT.—Notice is hereby given, that a Sitting of the Supreme Court for the despatch of Criminal and Civil Business will be held at the Supreme Court House at Dunedin on Monday, the sixth day of January next, at the hour of ten o’clock in the forenoon; at which time and place all persons bound by recognizances to appear as prosecutors, defendants, or witnesses are required to give their attendance.

CORPORATIONS and Private Parties requiring the “Otago Local Revenues Ordinance 1872,” with the Ordinances named in the Schedule to the said Ordinance, viz., “Licensed Auctioneers Ordinance 1862,” “Licensing Ordinance 1865,” with the various amendments, “Dog Nuisance Ordinance 1862,” “Licensed Carriages Ordinance 1862,” “The Licensed Hawkers Ordinances 1864,” “Goat Nuisance Ordinance 1868,” “Licensed Theatres Ordinance 1862,” with amendment—are informed that the same are now for sale at Mr A. R. Livingston’s, Bookseller, Dunedin. Price 3s. the lot. 26th Nov., 1872.

IMPOUNDED on the 11th day of December, 1872 by Donald Ross, one bay Mare, branded S on near shoulder, owner unknown, trespassing on his paddock, Wara Flat, for which £1 driving expenses are claimed; and, in default of being released, the above mare will be sold at the Public Pound at South Dunedin, on Friday, the 3rd day of January, 1873, at twelve o’clock noon.—JAMES BARR, Poundkeeper of the South Dunedin Pound.

TAKE NOTICE that I desire the boundary or separating fence between your sections and sections 2 and 3, Block 30, Invercargill, to be made immediately, and that such fence shall be a substantial post, two-rail and board fence, at least five feet in height; posts two feet in the ground, and not more than eight feet asunder; and that, failing the erection of your half of the said fence, I shall cause the same to be erected at your cost and charges.

BYE-LAWS MADE BY THE DUNEDIN WATER WORKS COMPANY.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of the Colony of New Zealand, made and passed in the twenty-eighth year of the reign of Her present Majesty, and entitled “The Dunedin Water Works Act, 1864,” it was amongst other things enacted that the Dunedin Water Works Company might make, alter, and repeal Bye-laws for regulating the mode, form, strength, material, construction and arrangement of pipes, and other works supplying water from the pipes of the Company to adjacent premises, and regulating the time of doing the same, and notices to be given for the superintending thereof, the making good ground which may be displaced thereby, and for inspecting all services whether within or without any building at all reasonable times, and to regulate the construction, disposition, custody, and inspection of meters, and for classifying the several tenements to be supplied with water, and determining the rate to be paid for each class, either according to the annual value or the number of rooms in such tenements or otherwise; and for making and levying such rate, and for preventing the waste or misuse of water supplied by the Company, and for causing persons using the same to keep their pipes and other apparatus in proper repair, and for preventing any tampering with or altering such pipes without notice to the Company, and for repairing such pipes and apparatus so as to prevent the waste of water, and recovering the cost of such repairs, and for preventing any person from allowing any other person, not having agreed to be supplied by the Company, to use the water, and for preventing such person from using the same, and for preventing any person from wilfully or carelessly breaking, injuring or opening any lock, cock, valve, pipe, work or engine belonging to the Company, and from doing
