Now therefore I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the power and authority in me vested by the said Act, do hereby proclaim and declare that the natural oyster-beds at Port Adventure, in Stewart Island, shall be closed against dredging for a period of two years, from the twenty-second day of July, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two.

At the Government House at Wellington, this twenty-fourth day of July, 1872.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

Now therefore, His Excellency the Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the Colony, doth hereby, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in him for this purpose, appoint HENRY ALDBOROUGH STRATFORD, Esq., to be a Warden of all Wardens’ Courts now constituted or hereafter to be constituted within the Gold Fields of the Province of Otago, with power to him to act alone or with assessors, and to exercise all or any of the powers vested in or imposed on Judges of Wardens’ Courts.

In pursuance and exercise of the power and authority in this behalf enabling me, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby fix and appoint that sittings of the District Court of the Otago Gold Fields, during the months of September and October next, shall be held as follows:

In the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Naseby on the second Wednesday in September next.

In the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Clyde on the Monday next after the second Wednesday in September next.

In the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Queenstown on the Monday second after the second Wednesday in September next.

In the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Lawrence on the second Tuesday in October next.

Provided that in case any of the days so fixed as aforesaid shall happen to be a holiday, then the Court appointed for that day shall be holden on the first day thereafter, not being a holiday.

Issued this thirty-first day of July, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two.

“Invercargill Reserve Management Ordinance, 1872,”

having been laid before the Governor, His Excellency has been pleased to assent to the same.

IT is hereby notified that in conformity with Clause 3 of “The Otago Municipal Corporations Empowering Act, 1865,” the names of the following persons have been sent in to this office by the Town Clerks as having been elected Mayors for the places set opposite their names, viz:

Henry Smith Fish, junior—Dunedin;

Thomas Stater Pratt—West Hawkesbury;

Henry Dench—Port Chalmers;

William Wood—Invercargill; and

William Beresford—Alexandra.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Henry Aldborough Stratford, Esq., of Arrowtown, Otago, to be a Justice of the Peace for the Colony, and also to be a Resident Magistrate for the District of Otago Gold Field, and as such to exercise the extended jurisdiction of £50.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Henry Smith Fish, Esq., junr., Mayor of Dunedin, to be a Justice of the Peace and Resident Magistrate for the Resident Magistrate’s District of Dunedin, under “The Otago Municipal Corporations Empowering Act, 1865.”

IMPOUNDED on the 10th August, 1872, by order of Mr M’Lennan, one bay mare, branded HO conjoined on off shoulder; one brown mare, no visible brand, owners unknown, for trespassing on fenced land at Allday Bay, for which no damages are claimed, and in default of being released, the above mares will be sold at the public pound at Otepopo, on the 6th September, 1872, at 12 o’clock noon.
