Application Cancellation

Application for section 62, block III, Tuapeka West, his application has been cancelled, and the land is now open for occupation by holders of miners’ rights.

It is hereby notified that a Writ, issued for the election of a Member of the Provincial Council for the Electoral District of Caversham, in place of Richard Seaward Cantrell, Esquire, deceased, has been returned, with a certificate that Robert Stout, Esquire, of Dunedin, Leaseholder, has been duly elected.

Amendment Ordinance 1872

It is provided that the first election of Members of the District Board in every district and subdivision of district shall take place and be held on such day as the Superintendent shall appoint:

Now therefore, I, James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, do hereby appoint the several days hereinafter specified, at twelve o’clock noon, for the first election of Members of the District Board for the several districts and subdivisions hereinafter mentioned respectively, to be elected under and by virtue of the said recited Ordinances.

Oteramika District:

One Tree Point Subdivision: Tuesday, 27th day of August, 1872.
Lothian Subdivision: Wednesday, 28th day of August, 1872.

Lindhurst District:

Waimumu Subdivision: Thursday, 28th day of August, 1872.
Mabel Subdivision: Friday, 29th day of August, 1872.
Myross Subdivision: Saturday, 30th day of August, 1872.

Given under my hand, and issued under the public seal of the Province of Otago, this thirty-first day of July, 1872.

PUBLIC NOTICE

Under Section 1, Regulation IV.

WHEREAS I have received sufficient proof that the portion of the Otago Gold Field, described in the Schedule hereto, is for the whole or the greater part of an inferior character as regards the value of its gold deposits: Now, therefore, I hereby give notice that the same may be occupied by holders of Miners’ Rights, in claims of the undermentioned size, viz:-

One (1) acre for each holder of a Miner’s Right.

Given under my hand at Cromwell, this 25th day of July, 1872.

SCHEDULE

All that portion of the Otago Gold Field situate at Cromwell Flat, three-quarters of a mile north of the Cromwell Bridge: bounded on the north by Crown Lands, south by Crown Lands, east by the Clutha River, west by Crown Lands, and comprising two (2) acres.


FIRST MEETING OF THE ROAD BOARDS

The following section of the “Otago Roads Ordinance 1871” is published for the information of newly-elected Road Boards:-

“34. The Board of every district constituted or proclaimed under the provisions of this Ordinance shall hold their first meeting on the third Wednesday after the first election or appointment of members of the Board or as soon after such respective periods as conveniently may be at the hour of twelve o’clock at noon and shall proceed to put this Ordinance into execution.”

The members of each Board shall themselves fix the place of meeting.

CORRECTED NOTICE

“OTAGO ROADS ORDINANCE 1871” AND “THE OTAGO ROADS ORDINANCE AMENDMENT ORDINANCE 1872.”

Appointment of First Election Days

WHEREAS by “The Otago Roads Ordinance 1871” and the “Otago Roads Ordinance Amendment Ordinance 1872” it is provided that the first election of Members of the District Board in every district shall take place...

Now therefore I, James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, do hereby appoint the several days... for the first election of the District Boards.

I, Frederick Nutter, the Returning Officer duly appointed for the above district, do hereby require all candidates to be nominated in the manner provided by the 98th clause of the Otago Roads Ordinance 1871, at the elections to be held at the time and place above-named for each subdivision of the said districts.

INCENDIARISM

Maliciously Setting Fire to a House. £50 Reward.

WHEREAS on the morning of Wednesday, the 24th ultimo, a fire broke out in the unoccupied house of Arthur John Bamford, at Mornington, value £500, by which the same was totally destroyed: And whereas there is no doubt but that the fire was maliciously caused by some evil-disposed person or persons:

Notice is hereby given, that a reward of Fifty Pounds will be paid by the Provincial Government of Otago for such information as will lead to the conviction of the person or persons by whom the fire was originated.

BONUS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A WOOL-PACK AND SACK MANUFACTORY IN OTAGO

The Provincial Government being desirous of encouraging the manufacture of Wool-packs and Sacks, is prepared to receive offers from parties willing to embark in the enterprise, and is further prepared to pay a bonus of £1000 as under:

On the erection of buildings and machinery to the value of at least £2000—£500.

On the production of Sacks or Wool-packs to a value of not less than £500—£250.

On the production of a further quantity of Sacks or Wool-packs to the value of not less than £1000—£250.

The cloth in each case to be produced by machinery.
