IN Consequence of no School Committee having
been elected, His Honor the Superintendent has
fixed Monday, the 25th day of March, 1872, at seven
o’clock p.m., for the election of a School Committee
in each of the following mentioned districts, viz.—Crom-
well, Arrow, Bluff, Trotter’s Creek, Flint’s Bush, and
Hampden. The meeting in each district will be held
in the Schoolhouse. See “Education Ordinance
1864,” section 15.

Otago Education Board, and teachers already
employed who have not yet received full certificates
of competency, are invited to attend an examina-
tion to be held at the Education Office, Dunedin, on Fri-
day, the 22nd day of March, 1872, at half-past nine
o’clock a.m.

SPECIAL Meeting of the Education Board will
be held at the Government Buildings, Dunedin,
on Thursday, the 29th February, 1872, at twelve
o’clock noon.

PROVINCIAL SCHOLARSHIPS.

THE Education Board has authorized the offering of
Three Scholarships for competition; one for
High School Pupils, and two for boys from the Dis-
trict Schools in 1871. The examination will pro-
bably take place in February. Particulars will be given
in next issue.

PROVINCIAL SCHOLARSHIPS.—The following
Regulations of the Education Board respecting
Provincial Scholarships are published for general infor-
mation. Schoolmasters are requested to forward to
me, before the 26th February, 1872, a list containing
the names and ages of intending competitors belonging
to their several schools.

REGULATIONS.

  1. Three Scholarships, in connection with the High
    School, shall be open for competition on the 27th of
    February, 1872, to boys who shall have been in atten-
    dance at the public schools of Otago during the year

  2. Two of the said Scholarships shall be bestowed
    on boys from the District Schools, and one on a boy
    who has attended the High School. Competitors must
    be under fourteen years of age at the date of the com-
    petition.

  3. The holders for the time being of the said Scholar-
    ships shall be called “Provincial Scholars,” and shall be
    entitled to the privileges and advantages hereinafter
    specified. A Scholarship shall be tenable as long as the
    holder of it remains a pupil of the High School, but
    not longer than five years.
