for the purpose of constructing a light line of railway from Oamaru to the Waireka Valley within the said district: Notice is hereby given to the ratepayers on the assessment roll of the said district that the General Road Board will grant the request of the Windsor Local Road Board at a meeting of the General Board to be held at Dunedin on the 14th day of March next, unless that two-thirds of the ratepayers on the assessment roll of the said district are unfavorable to the loan being contracted, as provided in Clause 2 of the said Ordinance.

The following clauses of the “Road Districts Loan Ordinance” are published for general information:—

I. The Otago General Road Board at the request of the local board of any road district may borrow on the security of the yearly highway or road rates or of any special rates authorised to be levied from time to time under the provisions of the “Otago Roads Ordinance 1865” for the specific work for which a loan is required any sum which with any other sum previously borrowed and remaining unpaid for such road district shall not exceed one year’s estimated rental of property in such district.

II. It shall be lawful for the ratepayers in any road district to petition the Otago General Road Board to refuse any such request of the local board to borrow any such sum as in the last clause is mentioned and on being satisfied that two-thirds of the ratepayers on the assessment roll of the district are unfavorable to a loan being contracted, the General Road Board shall refuse to comply with the request of the local board.

PUBLICANS’ LICENSES.—The Quarterly Meetings for granting Licenses, &c., will be held in the various Licensing Courts within the Province at noon of Tuesday, the 5th day of March, 1872. Applications, &c., respecting business must be made to the respective Clerks of Court at least fourteen clear days before such meeting, otherwise the business cannot be transacted.


STAMP ACT.—Managers of Cemeteries must use a 5s 6d Stamp on declaration made under Section 14 of the “Cemeteries Reserves Management Ordinance 1864.”

23rd February, Friday noon, four cows and four steers will be sold at Waitahuna Pound.
23rd February, Friday noon, a steer will be sold at Papakaio Pound.

23rd February, Friday noon, a black horse will be sold at Palmerston Pound.
23rd February, Friday noon, a red steer will be sold at Oamaru Pound.

CONTRACTS FOR WHICH PAYMENTS ARE TO BE MADE IN LAND.

TENDERS will be received at the Office of the Secretary for Land and Works, until noon of Friday, 16th February, for—

Contract No. 575—Supply of 1360 cubic yards of road metal, including spreading and boxing.

Specifications may be seen and forms of tender obtained at the office of the Engineer of Roads and Works, Dunedin, or at the Police Station, Oamaru.


Tenders will be received at the office of the Secretary for Land and Works, until noon of Friday, the 16th February, for—

Contract No. 576—Construction of a portion of road “Dougherty’s Hotel to Fitzgerald’s Store, Tuapeka.”

Plans and specifications may be seen, and forms of tender obtained at the office of the Engineer of Roads and Works, Dunedin, or at the Police Station, Tuapeka.

Tenders to be endorsed “Roads and Works Tender for Contracts No. 575 or 576,” as the case may be.

The Government does not undertake to accept the lowest or any tender.


Time Extended.

Tenders will be received at the office of the Secretary for Land and Works, until noon of Tuesday, 27th February, for Contract No. 571—forming a bridle track between George’s store, Kyeburn, and the Township of the Marewhenua Diggings, “Marewhenua to Mount Ida Diggings through the Marewhenua Pass.”

Specifications may be seen and forms of tender obtained at the office of the Engineer of Roads and Works, Dunedin; or at the Police Station, Naseby.

Tenders to be endorsed “Roads and Works Tender for Contract No. 571.”

The Government does not undertake to accept the lowest or any tender.


Time Extended.

Tenders will be received at the office of the Secretary for Land and Works, until noon of Tuesday, 27th February, for Contract No. 573—gravelling 99 chains of road, “Camp Reserve, Waitahuna, to Duff’s store.”

Specifications may be seen and forms of tender obtained at the office of the Engineer of Roads and Works, Dunedin; or at the Police Station, Waitahuna.

Tenders to be endorsed “Roads and Works Tender for Contract No. 573.”
