IMMIGRATION.—Regulations for the introduction of Immigrants into the Province of Otago, on the nomination of persons resident therein.
Persons residing within the Province may obtain orders for Passages from the United Kingdom to Otago, for their friends or relatives, on payment of £5 per statute adult; children over one year old, £2 10s; and under one year, free. Such payment to be made, accompanied by a written application in the following form, to the Provincial Treasurer, Dunedin; the Receivers of Land Revenue at Invercargill, and of Gold Revenue at Queenstown, Arrowtown, Cromwell, Clyde, Alexandra, Naseby, St Bathans, Roxburgh, Lawrence, Switzers, Hyde, Macraes; and the Collector of Customs at Oamaru, who will forward the applications from time to time to the Provincial Immigration Office at Dunedin.
Forms of application may be obtained from each of the above officers.

THE COINAGE OFFENCES ACT 1867.
The following sections of the said Act are published for general information:—

Whosoever shall impair diminish or lighten any of the Queen’s current gold or silver coin with intent that the coin so impaired diminished or lightened may pass for the Queen’s current gold or silver coin shall be guilty of felony and being convicted thereof shall be liable at the discretion of the Court to be kept in penal servitude for any term not exceeding fourteen years and not less than three years or to be imprisoned for any term not exceeding two years with or without hard labour and with or without solitary confinement.

Whosoever shall unlawfully have in his custody or possession any filings or clippings or any gold or silver bullion or any gold or silver in dust solution or otherwise which shall have been produced or obtained by impairing diminishing or lightening any of the Queen’s current gold or silver coin knowing the same to have been so produced or obtained shall be guilty of felony and being convicted thereof shall be liable at the discretion of the Court to be kept in penal servitude for any term not exceeding seven years and not less than three years or to be imprisoned for any term not exceeding two years with or without hard labour and with or without solitary confinement.

Where any coin shall be tendered as the Queen’s current gold or silver coin to any person who shall suspect the same to be diminished otherwise than by reasonable wearing or to be counterfeit it shall be lawful for such person to cut break bend or deface such coin and if any coin so cut broken bent or defaced shall appear to be diminished otherwise than by reasonable wearing or to be counterfeit the person tendering the same shall bear the loss thereof but if the same shall be of due weight and shall appear to be lawful coin the person cutting breaking bending or defacing the same is hereby required to receive the same at the rate it was coined for and if any dispute shall arise whether the coin so cut broken bent or defaced be diminished in manner aforesaid or counterfeit it shall be heard and finally determined in a summary manner by any Justice of the Peace who is hereby empowered to examine upon oath as well the parties as any other person in order to the decision of such dispute and the Colonial Treasurer
and his deputies and clerks and all receivers and collectors of every branch of Her Majesty’s revenue in New Zealand are hereby required to cut break or deface or cause to be cut broken or defaced every piece of counterfeit or unlawfully diminished gold or silver coin which shall be tendered to them in payment of any part of Her Majesty’s revenue.
LOTTERY.
The following clause of the “Town and Country Police Ordinance 1862” is published for general information:—
- If any person shall establish commence or be a partner or otherwise beneficially interested in any lottery or any scheme by which prizes whether of money or of any other matter or thing shall be gained drawn or thrown for or competed for by lot dice or any other mode of chance or shall sell or dispose of any tickets or other means by which permission or authority is gained or given to any person to throw for compete or have any interest in any such lottery or scheme or shall under any pretence or by means of any device sell or dispose of or endeavour to sell or dispose of any lands goods wares or merchandise by means of any game either of skill or chance every such person being duly convicted thereof shall forfeit and pay a penalty not exceeding fifty pounds and for any second offence besides such penalty shall be liable to imprisonment not exceeding six months: But this provision shall not apply to the distribution of any property amongst the owners thereof or to any raffle of any work purely of art of which a notice having the name and address of the person intending to hold the same subscribed thereto shall have been given to the Superintendent if the Superintendent shall not within one week after such notice prohibit such raffle by notice sent by post or in any other manner according to the address so subscribed by such person.
ROSLYN ROAD BOARD.
The precept for the year 1871-72, having been issued by the General Road Board, authorising the collection of a Highway Rate of sixpence in the pound, I hereby notify that all Rates are to be paid to me at my residence, Roslyn, on or before November 27th, 1871.—

STONY CREEK ROAD DISTRICT.
The precept for the collection of Highway Rate for 1871-72 having been issued, Ratepayers are requested to pay the amount of their respective Rates to me, at my house, on or before the 10th day of November, 1871.—

HAMPDEN ROAD DISTRICT.
The precept authorising the collection of the Highway Rate in the above district, for the year ending June, 1872, having been issued by the General Road Board, Ratepayers are hereby requested to pay their respective Rates to me, at my house, Hampden, on or before the 25th November, 1871.—

BUSHEY ROAD DISTRICT.
Notice is hereby given that the General Road Board having issued a Precept authorising the collection of the Highway Rate for the year 1871-72, the collector will call once upon the Ratepayers for payment of the amount of their respective Rates.—

OPANNAHURST ROAD DISTRICT.
