IMPOUNDED on the 13th day of September, 1871,
by Mr David Carey, Blueskin, one white heifer, one
red heifer, one strawberry heifer, and one red and white
heifer, each branded like W ~ on the off rump, owner
unknown, for trespassing on Mr Carey’s grass paddock,
and in default of being released, the above cattle will
be sold at the Public Pound at Blueskin on the 6th of
October, 1871, at 12 o’clock noon.—J. GREEN,

IMPOUNDED on the 14th day of September, 1871,
one white steer, red neck and legs, indistinct
brand on off rump, piece out of right ear, by John
Valentine, Hawksbury Bush, owner unknown, for tres-
passing on growing wheat crop, for which 4s damages is
claimed, and in default of being released, the above
steer will be sold at the Public Pound at Hawks-
bury, on Friday the 6th of October, 1871, at 12 o’clock

one red and white heifer, branded like M S on off
rump, by John McLaughlin, owner unknown, for tres-
passing on Hawksbury Bush District Roads, for which
1s 6d damage is claimed, and in default of being re-
leased, the above heifer will be sold at the Public
Pound at Hawksbury, on Friday, the 6th day of Octo-
ber, 1871, at twelve o’clock noon.—ARCH. VALEN-

Stewart) or whom it may concern: Take notice,
that I desire the boundary fence between sections 9
and 7, block XVIII, West Clutha, be made imme-
diately.

NOTICE TO MAKE A FENCE.
TO John Anderson, occupier of Section 11 Block I,
in the Township of Outram, West Taieri: Take
notice that I desire the boundary or separating fence
between sections 10 and 11 Block I in the township
of Outram, West Taieri, be made immediately, and that
such fence shall be posts not less than six feet in height,
and two feet six inches in the ground, and three rails
of sawn timber, and six feet palings one inch lap,
and fastened on with hoop iron top and bottom.

NOTICE TO MAKE A FENCE.

given that the assessment for 1871–2 has been
allowed by the Council, and is deposited and may be
inspected at my office, between the hours of 10 a.m.
and 3 p.m. Notice of appeal against the assessment
must be given within ten days after the publication of
this notice.

Regulations for Assisted and Nominated Immigration.
No. 6.

WHEREAS by "The Immigration and Public
Works Act 1870," it is among other things
enacted that the Governor may, at the request of the
Superintendent of any Province, from time to time
make regulations (as therein mentioned) for the con-
duct of immigration under the said Act into such
Province, and for the nomination of immigrants by
persons resident therein, and for the distribution of
funds provided by the said Act for immigration pur-
poses, and for the introduction into and settlement in
such Province of immigrants, and for selling as special
settlements for any such immigrants any lands which
they may acquire from any Province under the provi-
sions therein contained, or any lands acquired under "The
New Zealand Settlements Act 1863," or the Acts a-
mending the same, and for laying out and allotting any lands so
acquired amongst any such immigrants: And whereas
James Macandrew, Esq., the Superintendent of the
Province of Otago, hath requested me, Sir George
Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of New Zealand, to
make regulations under the provisions of the said Act
as and in manner hereinafter set forth:
Now therefore I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the
Governor of New Zealand, by virtue and in exercise
of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by
the 41st section of "The Immigration and Public
Works Act 1870," and of all other powers and autho-
rities enabling me in that behalf, and in compliance
with the request of the said Superintendent, do hereby
make the following regulations, that is to say:—
Regulations for the Introduction of Assisted Immigrants
into the Province of Otago.
Any person residing in Europe desirous of obtaining
an assisted passage to the Province of Otago in vessels
under contract to proceed to that Province, may receive
assistance as follows:
- The Government will grant passages on payment
to the Agent-General of the Colony in London, or to
the Agent of the Province in Scotland acting under
his direction, before embarkation, of the sum of £5 for
each adult of twelve years old and upwards; but where
the intending immigrant is unable to pay the £5 above
mentioned, the Agent-General, or the Agent of the
Province in Scotland, acting under his direction, will
have power to commute the cash payment into the
giving a promissory note for £7 per adult; preference
will, however, always be given to those who can pay
the largest portion in cash. The promissory notes will
be made payable on demand in the form printed below:
but unless the immigrant dispute the debt or shall
attempt to leave the Province, payment will only be
required by such instalments as may be requisite to
pay off the whole amount within twelve months after
arrival.
