PROCLAMATION.

Awamoa Road District.—Powers suspended.—Commissioner appointed.

By His Honor William Alexander Tolmie, Esquire,
Deputy-Superintendent of the Province of Otago.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance passed by the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Otago, intituled the “Otago Roads Ordinance 1865,” it is amongst other things enacted in the 12th Section thereof, that if any Local Board shall refuse or neglect to carry the said Ordinance into operation, the Superintendent may, with the advice of the General Road Board, by proclamation published in the Gazette, declare the powers of such board to be suspended, and may, by such proclamation, appoint a Commissioner, or such number of Commissioners as he may think fit for each district; and the several rights, privileges, and duties of such board shall, from the date of such proclamation, vest in and be exercised by such Commissioner or Commissioners on behalf of the board:

And whereas the Local Board of the Awamoa Road District have neglected to carry this said Ordinance into operation, and it is therefore deemed expedient and necessary to suspend the powers of the said Local Board, and to appoint a Commissioner for the said Awamoa Road District:

Now therefore I, William Alexander Tolmie, Esquire, Deputy-Superintendent of the said Province, with the advice of the Otago General Road Board, and in exercise and pursuance of the power vested in me in this behalf by the “Superintendent’s Deputy Act 1866,” do hereby proclaim and declare the powers of the Local Board of the Awamoa Road District to be and the same are hereby suspended, and I do hereby, with the advice aforesaid, appoint

JAMES STUART HOLMES, Esquire,
of Oamaru, in the said Province of Otago, a Commissioner for the said district, to exercise the rights, privileges, and duties of the said Local Board of the said district.

Given under my hand, and issued under the Public Seal of the Province of Otago, at Dunedin, this eleventh day of September, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-one.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

IN conformity to the 29th Section of the “Gold Fields Act 1866,” and to the Regulations made under that Act and the Gold Fields Acts Amendment Acts of 1867, 1868, and 1869, for the granting of leases for gold mining purposes within the Province of Otago, it is hereby notified that it is intended to grant a lease for gold mining purposes of Crown Lands to the applicants specified in the annexed Schedule, unless there shall be valid objections against granting such lease.

Objections to the granting of such lease, stating the grounds of objection, must be made in writing and lodged with the Warden, at Queenstown, on or before the 29th day of September, 1871.

Copy of the application made, and plans annexed, may be seen at the Warden’s Office at Queenstown.

NOTICE

In conformity with Section 1 of Regulation IV of the Rules and Regulations of the Otago Gold Field.

WHEREAS I have received sufficient proof that the portion of the Otago Gold Field, described in the annexed Schedule, has been fairly tested, and is either in whole or in part of an inferior character as regards the value of its gold deposits: Now, therefore, I hereby give notice that the same may be occupied by holders of miners’ rights in claims of the undermentioned size:—One (1) acre for each holder of a miner’s right, provided that no block claim shall comprise more than six (6) acres altogether.

Given under my hand at Roxburgh, in the Province of Otago, this sixth day of September, 1871.

SCHEDULE.

All that portion of the Otago Gold Field comprised within the following boundaries, that is to say:—The west bank of the Clutha River at its ordinary Winter level, commencing at the north boundary of the Township of Roxburgh, and terminating at the Gorge creek, Mount Benger District.


ELECTION of Local Boards Road Trustees.

Ratepayers in the undermentioned Road District having failed to elect a Local Board to serve for the year ending June, 1871. Notice is hereby given, that a Meeting is appointed to be held for the purpose of electing five duly qualified persons to serve as a Local Board as under:—

Lawerton: Friday, 15th September, 1871, at the house of Mr Peter Orr, at 4 p.m.
