PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.

PRIVATE PETITIONS.—The following resolution by the Private Petitions Committee, which was afterwards adopted by the Provincial Council, is published for general information :-

“In concluding their labours, your Committee would recommend to the consideration of the Council the advisability of laying down as a rule of this House, that all Petitions should be first submitted to the Government, if possible, during the recess, before being presented to the Provincial Council; so that the Government may be prepared beforehand with any evidence they wish to procure, bearing on the prayer of the Petitions; and all applications for Reserves should be made to the Government during the recess, and brought down to the Council with their opinion thereon.”

JOHN L. GILLIES, Chairman.
