PINE HILL ROAD DISTRICT.—The Local Road Board hereby notify their intention of applying at the next sitting of the General Road Board, on the first Thursday of August, 1870, for authority to levy an acreage rate of one shilling per acre. The assessment roll for the above district is now ready, and may be inspected by the ratepayers at my house, N. E. Valley, fourteen days from the date of this notice.—HENRY DUNCAN, Clerk to the Pine Hill Board. 15th July, 1870.

CITY OF DUNEDIN.—Public notice is hereby given that the Nomination of Candidates for election to the several offices of Councillors and Auditors for the year ending 1st August, 1871, will be declared on Wednesday, the 27th day of July inst., at the Terrace of the Provincial Council Chambers, at the hour of noon.

The Councillors retiring by rotation are:—For South Ward, Cr. John Griffen; for High Ward, Cr. Thos. M. Wilkinson; for Bell Ward, Cr. John Carroll; for Leith Ward, Cr. James Wilson.

Nominations must be in form of Schedule D of the “Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance, 1865,” and be lodged at the Office of the Town Clerk, where blank forms may be had, on or before noon of the day herein fixed for the declaration.

One Councillor to be elected for each Ward, and two Auditors to be elected for the City.

I, THE UNDERSIGNED CHARLES FREDERICK JOHNSON, hereby make application to register “The Alta Quartz Mining Company, Registered,” under the provisions of “The Mining Companies’ Limited Liability Act 1865,” and I do solemnly and sincerely declare that the following statement is, to the best of my belief and knowledge, true in every particular, namely:—

  1. The name and style of the Company is “The Alta Quartz Mining Company, Registered.”

  2. The place of operations is at Bendigo, in the Province of Otago.

  3. The nominal capital of the Company is four thousand eight hundred pounds, in four hundred and eighty shares of ten pounds each.

  4. The amount already paid up is two thousand four hundred pounds, being the estimated value of the mine.

  5. The name of the manager is Charles Frederick Johnson.

  6. The office of the Company is in Sunderland street, Clyde, in the Province of Otago aforesaid.

  7. The names and several residences of the shareholders, and the number of shares held by each at this date, are as follows:—

IMPOUNDED on the 11th day of July, 1870, by Mr. Robert Cox, Brickmaker, one red and white Heifer, one red and white steer, no visible brands, owner unknown, for trespassing on his garden and brickfield, Anderson’s Bay, for which no damages are claimed; and in default of being released, the above Cattle will be sold at the Public Pound at Anderson’s Bay, on Friday, the 5th day of August, 1870, at 12 o’clock noon.—HUGH ROSS, Poundkeeper of the Anderson’s Bay Pound.

Intent to injure or defraud particular persons need not be stated in any indictment.

  1. It shall be sufficient in any indictment for any offence against this Act, where it shall be necessary to allege an intent to injure or defraud, to allege that the party accused did the act with intent to injure or defraud (as the case may be), without alleging an intent to injure or defraud any particular person, and on the trial of any such offence it shall not be necessary to prove an intent to injure or defraud any particular person; but it shall be sufficient to prove that the party accused did the act charged, with an intent to injure or defraud (as the case may be).
