NOTICE to Payers of Road Rates in Maungatua District.—It is the intention of the Commissioner for the district to apply for authority to levy a rate of one Shilling in the Pound sterling annual value. The rate roll shall be lying for inspection at Maungatua School-house from this date until 7th May next. Dated at Maungatua this 25th day of April, 1870.—Alex. M’Intosh, Clerk and Collector.


NOTICE.—Broad Bay District.—Parties in arrear of Road Rates, will please pay their respective amounts to me, at my house, within 21 days from this date, otherwise legal proceedings will be taken to recover the same.—James Shaton, Clerk and Collector.

IMPOUNDED on the 22nd day of April, 1870, by A. Johnston, for Messrs. Chapman, Maitland, and Sanders:
1 red and white bullock, branded like heart near rump, coupling chain on neck, N 4 near rib; 1 red and white steer, no brand; one red and white steer, branded M near rump, near ear split; 1 red and white bullock, branded like Y (in circle) on off rump; 1 roan bullock, branded like heart near rump; 1 red and white bullock, branded like heart near rump, and like S on loin; owners unknown; for trespassing on the runs of Messrs. Chapman, Maitland and Sanders, Maniototo Plains, for which 15s. each damages are claimed, and in default of being released, the above cattle will be sold at the Public Pound at Hawksbury, on Friday, the 12th day of May, 1870, at noon.—A. Valentine, Poundkeeper of the Hawksbury Pound.


CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF PORT CHALMERS.—Public notice is hereby given, that the Valuator’s Assessment for the year 1870, has been submitted to the Town Council and allowed; that the same is deposited at my office, Town Hall, Currie street, and may be daily inspected between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. by any person interested therein. It is further notified that any appeals against the assessment may be lodged with me, on or before the 3rd day of May, 1870, and a copy of each notice of appeal must be delivered by the appellant to the Clerk of the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Port Chalmers, six clear days before the day of hearing.

Otago and Southland District.

In the matter of “The Escheat Act 1868,” and in the matter of James Buchanan, late of West Taieri, farmer, deceased.

Regina v. Buchanan and Others.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that an inquest for the purpose of determining whether certain lands, situate in the Province of Otago, lately the property of James Buchanan, the above-named deceased, namely,—Section twenty-four, irregular block, West Taieri District; and section twenty-three, block one, Lower Harbour West District; and containing together sixty-three acres, three roods, and twenty-two poles, or thereabout, have or have not become the property of Her Majesty the Queen, by way of escheat, will be held by me, the Sheriff of the District of the Province of Otago, in pursuance of the above-mentioned Act, on Tuesday, the seventeenth day of May, 1870, at eleven o’clock in the forenoon, at the Supreme Court-house, Dunedin. And notice is hereby further given, that any person claiming any title or interest to or in the said lands, or any of them, either as heir-at-law of the said James Buchanan, or otherwise, may appear and give evidence at such inquest in support of their, his, or her claims or claim.
