[WITH SUPPLEMENT.]
PROCLAMATION
Of a Gaol at Oamaru.
By His Honor James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago.
WHEREAS it is expedient to proclaim the Stone Building situate on Section 7, Block XCV, Oamaru Town, a Public Gaol;] Now therefore I, James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, in pursuance of the powers vested in me in this behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that the said building shall henceforth be a Public Gaol.
Given under my hand and issued under the Public Seal of the Province of Otago, this twentieth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.
J. MACANDREW,
Superintendent.
REPLY TO THE ADDRESS OF HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT, on the opening of the Twenty-sixth Session of the Provincial Council.
We regret that there are differences of opinion between your Honor and your responsible advisers upon the question of Hundreds, and in regard to the construction of the Southern Trunk Railway.
We are pleased to hear that there is a prospect of the Port Chalmers Railway being commenced within two, and completed within eighteen, months.
We learn with pleasure that the report of the Commissioners is favorable to the re-union of the Provinces of Otago and Southland, and will be prepared to give it our most earnest consideration.
We are glad that an Act has been passed which enables the Province to dispose of land on the West Coast on terms which are likely to attract settlement of a suitable kind.
The question of the appointment of an Agent to proceed to Europe to promote the emigration to this Province of suitable labor and capital will receive our best attention.
We hail with pleasure the discovery of numerous gold bearing quartz-reefs in the Province, and agree with your Honor that the importance of this discovery upon the future of our Gold-Fields cannot be overestimated.
We shall gladly consider any scheme for procuring a cheap supply of water for our Gold-Fields.
Recognising the importance of the various measures which will be introduced, we are prepared to give them our earnest attention.
Printed under the authority of the Provincial Government of Otago, by MILLS, DICK and Co., of Dunedin Otago, New Zealand, Printers to the said Provincial Government for the time being.
