NOTICE TO CREDITORS.

NOTICE is hereby given, that by Deed of Assignment bearing date the thirty-first day of August, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight, made between JOHN THOMPSON, of Oamaru, in the Province of Otago, Contractor, of the first part; SAMUEL GIBBS, of Oamaru aforesaid, Commission Agent; and GEORGE SUMPTER, of the same place, Commission Agent; of the second part; and the several other persons whose names and Seals are thereto respectively subscribed and affixed, being severally creditors in their own right, or in co-partnership, or being agents or Attornies of creditors of the said John Thompson, of the third part; the said John Thompson did in pursuance of "The Bankruptcy Act 1868," grant, bargain, sell, assign, transfer, and set over all his real and personal estate unto the said Samuel Gibbs and George Sumpter, in trust for the equal benefit of the creditors of the said John Thompson: And notice is hereby further given, that the said Deed has been filed in the Supreme Court, at Dunedin, pursuant to the said Act.

In the matter of "The Bankruptcy Act 1867."

JAMES URE RUSSELL, of Dunedin, Master Mariner, a debtor, not adjudged a Bankrupt, has this day executed and filed in the Office of the Registrar, at Dunedin, of the Otago and Southland District of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, a Deed of Confirmation and Renewed Arrangement, in conformity with the provisions of the said Act; and on Monday next, the 14th day of September instant, he intends to apply to His Honor Mr. Justice Chapman, at the Supreme Court House, Dunedin, for a declaration of the complete execution of the said Deed, agreeably to the said Act.

"The Imprest Supply Ordinance, 1868;"

"The Cattle Trespass Ordinance, 1858, Amendment Ordinance, 1868;"

"The Goat Nuisance Ordinance, 1868;"

"The Appropriation Ordinance (No. 2), 1868-9;"

having been laid before the Governor, His Excellency has been advised not to exercise his power of disallowance in respect of those Bills.

WHEREAS by "The Otago Municipal Corporations Empowering Act 1865," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor to appoint the person elected to be Mayor of any city or incorporated town as therein mentioned, to be a Justice of the Peace for the Colony, provided that in every such case such appointment shall continue no longer than the mayoralty of such person. And whereas Thomas Tayler, Esq., has been elected Mayor for the Town of Port Chalmers.

Now therefore, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of New Zealand, in pursuance and in exercise of the power and authority vested in me in that behalf, do hereby appoint the said THOMAS TAYLER, Esq., to be a Justice of the Peace for the Colony of New Zealand.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, at the Government House at Wellington, this twelfth day of August, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight.
