Bye-Laws of the Council of Queenstown, 9th May, 1867.
Bye-Law No. 8
A Bye-Law for prohibiting the Deposit of Goods on the Public Footpaths, and the Exposure of Goods for Sale Outside of any Shop, Store, Dwelling, or House in Town of Queenstown.
Whereas much inconvenience is caused to the public by the blocking up of the public footpaths by the depositing thereon of merchandise for sale or otherwise:
And as it is desirable to repress such a custom or nuisance, be it therefore enacted, ordered, and directed by the Council of the Township of Queenstown by virtue of the authority in them vested, that from and after the date of this bye-law coming into force, any person or persons depositing for any period longer than is absolutely necessary for their removal into any store, shop, house, or other dwelling, goods, merchandise, or other material upon the public pathways, roads, or passages; or any person or persons who shall expose for sale outside his premises or upon any public pathway any goods, merchandise, or other material, shall for every breach of the provisions of this bye-law forfeit and pay a sum of not less than One Shilling or a sum not exceeding Ten Pounds sterling.

The foregoing Bye-laws having been laid before the Provincial Council of this Province for fourteen days, have been submitted to me for confirmation, and it having been made to appear to me that none of the said Bye-laws are repugnant to the “Otago Municipal Corporations Empowering Act, 1865,” or to the “Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance, 1865,” or to the “Otago Municipal Councils Empowering Act, 1865 Amendment Act, 1866,” or to an Ordinance entitled “An Ordinance to Amend the Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance, 1865,” or to the “Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance Amendment Ordinance, 1866,” or to the general spirit and intendment of the laws in force within the Colony and the Province, I do hereby, with the advice and consent of my Executive Council, confirm the said Bye-laws.
As witness my hand, at Dunedin, this twenty-sixth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that His Honor Mr. Justice Chapman has appointed Saturday, the 4th day of January next, at ten o’clock in the forenoon, at the Supreme Court House, Dunedin, for the hearing of the matters of the above Petition.

TAKE NOTICE that James Neill, of Palmerston, wheelwright, has presented and filed his petition for the sequestration of his estate for the benefit of all his creditors, and for relief according to the provisions of the Debtors and Creditors’ Acts, and that the said petition has been accepted by His Honor the Judge, who has appointed the 4th day of January, 1868, at 10 o’clock in the forenoon, at the Supreme Court House, Dunedin, for the hearing of the said petition, at which time and place, all parties concerned are to attend.
