HIS HONOR the Deputy Superintendent directs it to be notified that he will receive Deputations at 2 o’clock on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. A statement of the nature of the business intended to be brought before His Honor, must be left at the Superintendent’s office at least one day previous to the day on which the Deputations fix for calling.

CLUTHA COAL FIELD AND PLANT.— Separate Tenders will be received at the Government Office, Dunedin, until noon of Friday, 19th July, 1867, from parties willing to lease the Clutha Coal field and plant for 1 year, 3 years, or 5 years, as parties may determine. The Government will not be bound to accept the highest or any offer.

TENDERS wanted till noon of Monday, 15th July, for the conveyance of 4½ tons of wire rope to the Mataura Bridge, at per ton.

CRANBOURNE ROAD DISTRICT.— Notice is hereby given that at the meeting of ratepayers held on the 26th June last, for purpose of electing a Local Board of Road trustees for said district, a poll was demanded in accordance with Clause XI of the “Otago Roads Ordinance, 1865.”
And notice is hereby further given that such polling is appointed to take place on Friday, the 19th July inst., at the Bendigo Hotel, within the said district, between the hours of 12 and 4 in the afternoon.

WAIPORI ROAD DISTRICT.—EXTENSION OF BOUNDARIES— Notice is hereby given that application was made by the Waipori Local Board of Road Trustees to the General Road Board, at its last meeting, for the extension of the said Waipori District, to comprise the sections within the following boundaries, and at present forming part of the West Taieri Road District viz., commencing at the south-west angle of section 11, block VI, Taieri Survey District, and bounded on the south by sections 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1, said Block VI, and sections 5, 4, and 3, block V, said Survey District; on the east by section 7, said block V, and section 13, irregular block, Taieri; thence following line between sections 13 and 14, said irregular block, in a northerly direction to the boundary of Hundreds, on the north by the boundary of said Hundreds, to the present eastern boundary line of said Waipori district, on application 49, block VIII, Maungatua.
Application was also made by said Local Board for alteration of present name of district. Proposed name to be “Maungatua” Road District.
And notice is hereby further given that the General Road Board will, at the next monthly meeting, to be held at Dunedin on Thursday, the 1st August next, at 11 o’clock, proceed to consider and decide upon such applications. Notice of objections to be lodged by or before Wednesday, 31st July inst.

MERTON ROAD DISTRICT.— Notice is hereby given that, at the meeting of Ratepayers held on the 25th June last, for the purpose of electing a Local Board of Road Trustees for the said district, a poll was demanded, in accordance with Clause XI. of the “Otago Road Ordinance, 1865.” And notice is hereby further given that such polling is appointed to take place on Wednesday, the 17th July, 1867, at Mr. Brunton’s Store, within said district, at 12 o’clock.

The following Report of the Clerk to General Road Board is, by order of the Board, published for general information.
GENERAL ROAD BOARD OFFICE.— July 3, 1867.—Chairman General Road Board.—I have the honor to report having, since the last meeting of the General Road Board, visited the undermentioned Road districts—Saddle Hill, Walton, Wingatui, Abbotsford, Mosgiel, East Taieri, Owhiro, Salisbury, Breadalbane, West Taieri, Waipori, Clarendon, Waihola West and East, Southbridge, and Tuakitoto. I was also, through the courtesy of Mr Jas. E. Brown, Mayor, afforded the opportunity of inspecting the improvements made in the Municipality of Milton, and now being carried out under the supervision of that gentleman, and from plans and sections prepared by Mr Chas. O’Neill, C.E.
Mr Brown, who as well as filling the office of Mayor, has been appointed acting town surveyor, has devoted a great deal of time and attention to the proper carrying out of the works, particular attention having been given to drainage, which hitherto was very defective. In a brief report given me by Mr. Brown, he says on this subject—“That when the Mayor and Council first came into office, the town was in a very bad state, especially with regard to drainage. Along each side of the Main South Road were deep ditches, in many places full of water sluggish and stagnant, which had, in many places, been covered over to form approaches to stores and dwellings.”
This state of things has quite disappeared, and, on Mr. Brown’s recommendation, the ditches referred to were deepened and cut to proper gradients, and side drains formed, pipes or brick drains being put in the
