BYE-LAWS OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF OAMARU.
I. A Bye-Law for Regulating Hackney Carriages and Cabs, &c., and the Owners and Drivers thereof, Plying for Hire within the Town of Oamaru.

This bye-law shall apply to hackney carriages, omnibusses, cabriolets, public conveyances, coaches, or other vehicles of the like nature carrying passengers plying, kept, or let for hire within the town; and no such hackney carriage, omnibus, cabriolet, public conveyance, coach, or other vehicle of any description whatsoever shall ply for hire within the Town of Oamaru unless the same shall be duly licensed by the Town Clerk for the time being of the said town, and shall pay for such license to the Town Clerk the sum of two pounds two shillings, and the like sum annually for its renewal in every succeeding twelve calendar months.

Before a license for any such vehicle as aforesaid shall be granted, the owner, and also the driver or other person having charge of the same, shall submit their names to the office of the Town Clerk, and shall be approved of by the Mayor or one of the Councillors of the said town, and no person deemed by the said Mayor or Councillors to be unfit to hold a license shall be entrusted therewith; subject, however, to the right of appeal to the Council of the said town.

Table of Rates and Fares.
It shall be lawful for the said Council in the month of December, in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty-six, and in the respective months of June and December in every succeeding year, to regulate and fix, by a table to be by them for such purpose made, the rates and fares to be charged by the owners and drivers of hackney carriages; and the said rates and fares to vary and alter from time to time, and other rates and fares to fix and establish in lieu thereof; and such rates and fares, when so regulated and fixed or altered, shall be published in one or more of the newspapers published in the said town, and shall be deemed to be the rates and fares which, from and after such publication
