PROVINCE OF OTAGO, NEW ZEALAND.

AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS FOR THE YEAR AND CROP, 1866-67.

Divisions.—The Central District comprises that area around Dunedin, which is bounded by the Waikouaiti River on the north, the Ocean on the east, the Taieri River and Lakes Waihola and Waipori on the south, and the boundaries of the Hundreds on the west. The Northern District comprises all the Hundreds north of the Waikouaiti River. The Southern District comprises all the Hundreds south of the Taieri River, and Lakes Waihola and Waipori.

Note.—The Returns on the present occasion have been necessarily limited to the Hundreds, to the Lands and Stock in the Goldfields Districts, occupied or owned by Miners, Agriculturists, Dairymen, &c., and to the Homesteads on the Runs within the Goldfields Districts. It is believed, however, that in some instances stock belonging to Runholders, and depasturing on Runs, has been inadvertently included in the Returns. No statistics have been collected for Dunedin and the larger towns, or for the ordinary Runs; but, as the cultivation in the larger towns, and on the ordinary Runs, is of comparatively limited extent, the following tables relating to crops, may be held as giving a tolerably correct statement of the extent of cultivation within the Province during the past season, except as regards land under garden or orchard, and potatoes.
