PROCLAMATION

By his Honor JAMES MACANDREW, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Otago.

WHEREAS a Writ was issued by the Governor of New Zealand to the Principal Returning Officer for the Electoral District of the Province of Otago, requiring and commanding him to cause to be elected by the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, a legally qualified person to serve as Superintendent for the said Province of Otago: And whereas (after nomination on the Fourth day of February instant, and a poll on the Twentieth day of February instant), the said principal Returning Officer did upon this Twenty-seventh day of February instant, at a meeting fixed and notified by him for that purpose, at the Provincial Buildings, Dunedin, openly declare and publicly notify that I, James Macandrew, was duly elected to be Superintendent of the Province of Otago:

Now therefore, I do hereby proclaim and declare that I have assumed the office of Superintendent of the Province of Otago accordingly; and I hereby call upon the inhabitants of the said Province to be aiding and assisting me therein.

Given under my hand, and issued under the Public Seal of the Province of Otago, at Dunedin,

PROCLAMATION.

Rescinding Proclamation of the 9th day of February now instant, and proclaiming new Regulations for the Depasturing of Stock upon certain Lands within the proclaimed "Otago Gold Field," and of the appointment of Wardens.

By His Honor THOMAS DICK, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Otago.

WHEREAS it is expedient to rescind the Proclamation of the ninth day of February now instant, and to proclaim new Regulations for the Depasturing of Stock upon certain Lands within the proclaimed "Otago Gold Field," and to appoint Wardens on the Reserves thereof: Now therefore I, Thomas Dick, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, do hereby, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority delegated to and vested in me in this behalf, Rescind the said Proclamation of the ninth day of February now instant; and I do hereby make, proclaim, and declare the Regulations aftermentioned for the Depasturing of Stock upon Lands within the proclaimed "Otago Gold Field," over which no Pastoral Lease or License exists, or the licenses for which have been cancelled or suspended, namely, upon the Gold Field Reserves within the Districts of Tuapeka, Dunstan, and Wakatipu, in the said Province, that is to say:-

  1. Every holder of a miner’s right or of a business license shall be entitled to run two head of great cattle or horses free of charge.

  2. All other cattle running in the before-mentioned lands shall be assessed and paid for half-yearly, and paid for at the following rates, namely:

For every head of great cattle... 1s. 3d.

For every head of small cattle... 3d.

The words "great cattle" shall be construed to mean horned cattle, horses, mules, and asses, male and female, with their weaned offspring above six months of age; and the words "small cattle" shall be construed to mean sheep and goats, male and female, with their weaned offspring.

  1. Every person desirous of running cattle on the said Lands shall first deposit with the Warden of the District an application in writing for a Depasturing License, which license the Warden is hereby authorised to grant in the form hereinafter mentioned.

  2. Any person infringing these regulations by depasturing cattle on the before-mentioned lands without a license, or depasturing cattle in excess of the number
