Works carried out by subscription:

When it is desired to secure a subsidy to supplement local subscriptions for constructing any road or roads, a statement in writing must be laid before and approved by the Superintendent of Otago of the proposed work, together with an approximate estimate of the outlay required, and the advantages likely to arise from the work.

When the road or roads proposed is or are situated within a Road District, such statement must be forwarded to the said Superintendent through the Local Board of such district.

The Government will, without unnecessary delay, decide whether it is prepared to assist in carrying out such work, and, if willing, to what extent it will grant two pounds for every one pound subscribed.
Upon such last mentioned sum being paid into the said Treasury, or sufficient security given for the same to the satisfaction of the Government, credit will be given for it, together with two pounds additional for every one pound paid in or for which such security is given.
- Payments will be made as the work progresses, and the Government will, if deemed advisable, lend the assistance of its own officers to inspect such work, and if it considers it necessary shall have the power of inspecting. The conditions of the sixth clause hereinbefore contained, as far as the circumstances admit, are applicable to this clause.

ACCINATION.—His Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that he has been pleased to appoint the gentleman undermentioned to be a Medical Officer under the “Vaccination Act, 1863,” and that he will attend as aftermentioned, for the performance of Vaccination, and will also attend on the 8th day thereafter, to inspect the result of the operation, as required by the said Act.

to be Managers of the Reserve set aside for the purpose of a Public Cemetery in the Town of Roxburgh by the “Cemeteries Ordinance, 1865.”

ORDER IN COUNCIL,
At the Government House, at Wellington, the twelfth day of January, 1867.
WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled “The Marine Act, 1866,” it is amongst other things enacted, that it shall be lawful for the Governor in Council from time to time to make such regulations as may be found necessary respecting the anchoring and mooring of vessels;
Cardrona River and Shoe Creek in a southerly direction to the Peak, thence by a straight line to the source of the nearest tributary to the Cardrona River in a north-easterly direction, thence along that tributary to its junction with the Cardrona River, thence along the Cardrona River to its source; thence by a line to the source of the Swift Burn and along that stream to its junction with the Arrow River, the starting point.
Fourthly. All that area in the Province of Otago, containing by admeasurement seven thousand six hundred (7600) acres, more or less, situate in the Interior District, being portion of Run originally numbered 340, and now known as Run numbered thirteen (13), bounded by a line commencing at the junction of the Arrow River with the Kawarau River, thence along that river to the Swift Burn, thence along the Swift Burn to its source; thence by a line to the source of the Cardrona River, thence along the Cardrona River to Boundary Creek, thence along Boundary Creek to its source, thence by a line over Quartz Knoll and Rock Peak to the Kawarau River, thence along the Kawarau River to the Arrow River, the starting point.

Regulations for Supplementing Local Road Boards, &c.
THE following Regulations for supplementing Local Road Boards and Works carried out by Private Subscriptions and Rates, having been approved by the General Road Board, are now published for general information:—

Any Local Board desirous of availing itself, of the money or subsidy voted by the Provincial Council of the Province of Otago must give notice in writing, to that effect to the Superintendent of the said Province, and state approximately the amount it is estimated will be raised.

The money or subsidy allowed to any such Local Road Board will be at the rate of two pounds for every one pound raised by a rate not exceeding one shilling in the pound or one shilling an acre.

Upon the Treasurer of any Local Board, or other authorised person, paying from time to time to the Provincial Treasury of Otago the amounts raised by rates by such Board, credit will be given for it, together with two pounds additional for every one pound paid into the Road Board paying such money, but when rates are expended without being paid into the Treasury, credit will be given to the Local Board expending such money for a sum equal to two pounds for every one expended, upon satisfactory proof being afforded of such expenditure.

All payments will be made on vouchers signed by two members of the Local Board paying such money, and the same must be countersigned by the Treasurer of the Board.

Every payment into the said Treasury by a Local Board must be of a sum not less than twenty (20) pounds, and be accompanied by a statutory declaration that the money was raised by rates collected.

The Government shall have the right to examine all books, accounts, and other documents, of asking for verified copies or statements of the same, of inspecting works, and, if deemed necessary, of approving or disapproving of the same, but, there will be no desire to interfere with the exercise of local control except when eminently necessary.
In all cases, returns of expenditure and of the works executed must be furnished to the said Government immediately after the completion of such works, or sooner, from time to time as the said Government may require.
