PROCLAMATION
Rescinding the Constitution and Appointment of all the Gold Fields in the Province of Otago, and in lieu thereof constituting and appointing certain Lands in the said Province the “Otago Gold Field.”
By His Honor Thomas Dick, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Otago.
WHEREAS John Hyde Harris, Esquire, then Superintendent of the Province of Otago, by virtue and in exercise of the powers delegated to and vested in him in that behalf, did, by Proclamation in Government Gazette of the said Province, dated the fifteenth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, constitute and appoint all the several territories therein respectively described, to be respectively a Gold Field under the provisions of the “Gold Fields Act, 1862,” to be called by the various names therein set forth: And whereas by sundry other proclamations thereafter made, the limits of some of the Gold Fields named and described in the said proclamation of the fifteenth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, have been extended and altered, and other Gold Fields have been constituted and appointed in the said Province: And whereas it is expedient to rescind the said Proclamation of the fifteenth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and all other proclamations thereafter made either altering or extending the limits of the Gold Fields in the said proclamation, or constituting and appointing other Gold Fields in the said Province: Now therefore I, Thomas Dick, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, do hereby, in pursuance and exercise of the powers delegated to and vested in me under and by virtue of “The Gold Fields Act, 1866,” proclaim and declare that I do rescind the said Proclamation of the fifteenth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and all other proclamations thereafter made, whereby the limits of any of the Gold Fields of the said Province may have been extended or altered, and all other proclamations thereafter made constituting and appointing other Gold Fields in the said Province: And I do hereby further, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority in me vested in this behalf, constitute and appoint all that territory hereinafter described to be a Gold Field under the provisions of the “Gold Fields Act, 1866,” and to be called
“Otago Gold Field.”
That is to say, all that area comprising four millions eight hundred and eight thousand acres, more or less, situate in the Province of Otago, bounded by a line proceeding from Eyre Peak along the western and northern watershed of the Wakatipu Lake to Fox Peak, thence over Black Peak and Treble Cone and along the watershed east of the Shatover and Arrow rivers, and over Cardrona Mount to the Cardrona river at the junction of boundary creek, thence by boundary creek to its source, thence to and along Kirkleburn to its first feeder, thence to Parkburn at its source, thence along Parkburn to the Clutha river, thence by the Clutha river to Lindisburn, and along Lindisburn to the junction of the Cluden stream, thence by the ranges north of the said Cluden stream through the Dunstan Pass to Mount St. Bathan’s, thence to the Hawkdun Mountains, and by the Hawkdun Mountains to Mount Ida, thence to Kyeburn Hill, thence along the Kakanui Mountains and the north-eastern boundaries of Runs numbered respectively 255 and 109 to Mount Fortune, thence along the south-eastern boundary of Run 109 to the watershed between the Taieri and Waikouaiti rivers, thence by the Silver Peak Hills to Silver Stream, and by Silver Stream to the northern boundary line of the East Taieri Hundred, thence along the said boundary line to the eastern boundary of Block II, Dunedin and East Taieri District, thence by the said eastern boundary to the road line forming the southern boundary of sections numbered respectively 21, 22, 23, 6, 7, and 8, Block II aforesaid, thence along the said road line to the Taieri river, and by the said river to the Dunstan road, thence by the said Dunstan road and the southern boundary of the
