His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to form the undermentioned Corps into the 1st Battalion Otago Rifle Volunteers, the Head Quarters of which will be the drill shed, Dunedin :-

NOTICE TO PERSONS OCCUPYING CROWN LAND WITHIN THE TOWN OF ALEXANDRA.
NOTICE is hereby given that the Waste Land Board has determined to grant, under the Town Land Sales Ordinance, to persons occupying Sections in the Township of Alexandra whom may have erected buildings thereon during the time the Goldfields Act was in operation, the lands so occupied at a fixed price of (5) five shillings per foot frontage, provided applications for the same be made on or before the 10th day of August next, after which date all Sections unapplied for will be sold by auction without valuation for buildings.
The facts stated in every application to the Board must be verified by the Warden before being forwarded to the Waste Land Board; and the applicant must be prepared to pay the purchase money in Dunedin immediately on the application being granted.

THE GAZETTE (with Supplement) is published every Wednesday morning, and Notices for Insertion must be received at the Publisher's Office not later than 2 o'clock p.m. on the Tuesday preceding. Advertisements received after that hour will be charged 1s. per line. Any irregularity in the receipt of those Gazettes which are given gratis by the Government should be reported at once to the Provincial Secretary.
