ADDRESS OF HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT

ON PROROGUING THE TWENTIETH SESSION OF THE PROVINCIAL COUNCIL OF THE PROVINCE OF OTAGO, THURSDAY, 18TH MAY, 1865.

Mr. Speaker and Gentlemen of the Provincial Council—

I have now to thank you for the careful consideration which you have given to the various important measures brought before you during the present Session, and I trust that your legislation will result in the permanent advancement of the Province.

I have also to thank you for the supplies which you have voted for carrying on the Government and Public Works; and to assure you of my desire to administer the revenue with a wise economy.

The various resolutions which you have passed and communicated to me shall receive from the Government that attention which is due to your recommendation, and the importance of the subjects thus brought under my notice.

In addition to the Dunedin Town Board Dissolution Ordinance, to which I have already assented, I now assent on behalf of the Governor to the following Bills, viz:—

“Impounding Ordinance, 1862, Amendment Ordinance, 1865.”

“Superintendent’s Indemnity Ordinance, 1865.”

“Appropriation Ordinance, 1865.”

“The Otago Harbor Trust Lands Bill, 1865, passed at the commencement of the Session, having been already reserved by me, I now further reserve for the signification of the Governor’s pleasure thereon, the following Bills, viz:—

“Medical Practitioners’ Ordinance, 1864, Amendment Bill, 1865.”

“Acclimatisation Reserve Bill, 1865.”

“Cemeteries Bill, 1865.”

“Roads Diversion Bill, 1865.”

“Port Chalmers Municipal Estate Reserves Bill, 1865.”

“Otago Roads Bill, 1865.”

“Otago Municipal Corporation Bill, 1865.”

“Otago Public Buildings Loan Ordinance 1862 Amendment Bill, 1865.”

“I have now the pleasure to relieve you from your legislative duties, and I declare this Council to stand prorogued until Wednesday, the 11th day of October, 1865.”

THE following Bills were passed by the Provincial Council of the Province of Otago, in the Twentieth Session thereof, and assented to by His Honor the Superintendent on behalf of the Governor, the first-mentioned on 12th April, and the remainder this day:—

“Dunedin Town Board Dissolution Ordinance, 1865.”

“Impounding Ordinance, 1862, Amendment Ordinance, 1865.”

“Superintendent’s Indemnity Ordinance, 1865.”

“Appropriation Ordinance, 1865.”

And the following Bills were passed by the said Provincial Council during the said Session, and reserved for the signification of the Governor’s pleasure thereon; the first-mentioned on the twenty-fifth day of April, and the remainder this day:—
