Proclamation of Road Districts

And to increase the number of districts, by forming and naming new districts, or by dividing any district into two or more districts.

And whereas in the said Schedule the Saddle Hill Road District therein named is described as comprising all that area bounded on the north by East Taieri District; on the east by Kaikorai and Green Island Districts; on the south by the Ocean and the Otakia Creek; and on the west by Block II, Otakia District.

And whereas in the said Schedule the Moeraki Bush District named therein is described as comprising all that area bounded on the north-west by the Taieri River; on the north-east by Saddle Hill District; on the south-east by the Ocean; and on the south-west by the Maori Reserve.

And whereas it is expedient to alter the boundaries of the said Saddle Hill Road District, and to divide the said Moeraki Bush Road District: And whereas it is also expedient to form six New Road Districts, to be called respectively the Walton, Greyton, Brighton, Kurimoto, Motupipi, and Otakia Road Districts.

Now therefore I, John Hyde Harris, Superintendent of the said Province, with the advice and consent of the Otago General Road Board, do hereby proclaim and declare that the boundaries of the said Saddle Hill Road District shall henceforth be altered, and that henceforth:

The Saddle Hill Road District shall comprise all that area bounded on the north and north-west by the Southern Trunk Road; on the west by section 41, irregular block, East Taieri Survey District, section 32, application 19, sections 17 and 15, block I, Otakia Survey District; on the south by sections 10, 11, 36, 37, and 20; a line through section 30 to the north-west angle of section 39, section 39, 1 of 22, and 33; and a line through section 34 block VIII, Dunedin and East Taieri Survey District to its eastern boundary, and by section 71 block VII, in the said Survey District; and on the east by section 41 block VII, Dunedin and East Taieri Survey District, and by section 26, Green Island West Survey District.

And I do also, with the like advice and consent, proclaim and declare that the said Moeraki Bush Road District shall, from the date hereof, be abolished, and in lieu thereof there shall be six new Road Districts, that is to say, the Walton, Greyton, Brighton, Kurimoto, Motupipi, and Otakia Road Districts. And that

The Walton Road District shall comprise all that area bounded on the north by the Southern Trunk Road to section 40 block VII, Dunedin and East Taieri Survey District, thence on the west by sections 40 and 73 in the said block; thence by a line through section 34 to its western boundary sections 59, 31, 32, a direct line through section 30 to its western boundary sections 21, 57, and 9, block VIII, Dunedin and East Taieri Survey District; on the west by sections 15, 13, and 11, block I, Otakia, and by Taylor’s Creek to the Ocean; on the south by the Ocean; and on the east by the Kaikorai River and Abbot’s Creek to the Main South Road.

The Greyton Road District shall comprise all that area bounded on the west by block II, Otakia Survey District, and section 27, block III, in the said district; on the south by sections 20, 1 of 19, 1 of 18; a direct line through section 2 of 18 to its eastern boundary, and by sections 10 and 11 in the said last-named block; and on the east by block VIII, Dunedin and East Taieri Survey District, and section 40, irregular block, East Taieri Survey District.

The Brighton Road District shall comprise all that area bounded on the north by sections 13, 12 of 18, 2 of 19, and 43, block I, Otakia Survey District; thence on the east by sections 43 and 42 of the said block; on the north-west by sections 31 and 35, block II, in the said district, and sections 21 and 20, block III, in the said district, and by sections 35 and 36, block IV, in the said district; on the west by sections 45, 46, 47, and 48, in the said last-named block, section 31, block V, in the said district, and section 8, block XXIX, Waihola Survey District; on the south-west by the Ocean.

The Kurimoto Road District shall comprise all that area bounded on the north-west by sections 34, 9, 2 of 11, and 2 of 12, block V, Otakia Survey District; on the south-west by the Native Reserve; on the south-east by the Ocean; on the north-east by section 9, block XXIX, Waihola, section 12, block III, and section 48, block IV, Otakia Survey District.

The Motupipi Road District shall comprise all that area bounded on the north-west by the Taieri River; on the south-east by the Native Reserve; on the south-west by sections 1 of 12, 1 of 11, 10, 26, 27, and 33, block V, Otakia Survey District; and on the north-east by sections 47, 41, 42, 43, 37, 28, 27, 19, and 18, block IV, Otakia Survey District.

The Otakia Road District shall comprise all that area bounded on the north-west by the Taieri River; on the west by sections 17, 14, 13, 38, and 40, block IV, and sections 23, 24, and 25, block V, Otakia Survey district; and on the south by sections 33 and 31 block V, and sections 12, 14, 15, 16, 22, 24, 25, 26, and 27, block III, Otakia Survey District.

Given under my hand and issued under the Public Seal of the Province of Otago, at Dunedin, this seventeenth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-five.

Port Chalmers Town Board Election

In pursuance of the provisions of the “Port Chalmers and Invercargill Town Board Ordinance, 1859,” I, the Superintendent of the Province of Otago, do hereby appoint Thursday, the 9th day of February next, at 12 o’clock noon, as the day and time for the holding of an Election of One Member of the Town Board of Port Chalmers, in place of John Mains, resigned; and I do appoint the Town Hall at Port Chalmers, as the place for the holding of the said election; and I do appoint the said time and place as the time and place for the assembling of the persons entitled to vote at the said election; and I do appoint Friday, the tenth day of February next, as the day upon which the Poll shall be taken (if a Poll be demanded), and that the said Poll shall be taken at the said Town Hall; and I do appoint John Smythe Fleming, Clerk to the said Town Board, Returning Officer, to preside at the Meeting to be held at the said Election.
