PROCLAMATION
Of Regulations for the Destruction of Diseased Cattle, and for Preventing the spread of the Disease called Pleuro-pneumonia.
By the Honorable JOHN HYDE HARRIS, Superintendent of the Province of Otago.
WHEREAS by virtue of the powers in me vested in that behalf, I, John Hyde Harris, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, did by Proclamation in the Government Gazette of the said Province, dated the fourteenth day of January instant, Declare to be an Infected District within the meaning of the “Diseased Cattle Act, 1861,” all that part of the said Province lying and being within the North Eastern District of the said Province, and bounded towards the North by Shag river, towards the East by the ocean, towards the South by the Southern boundary line of the Waikouaiti Native Reserve, thence by a direct line to Trigonometrical Station L of the Waikouaiti Survey District, thence towards the West by a direct line to Trigonometrical Station O of the Waikouaiti Survey District, thence by a line due north to the Waikouaiti River, and thence by the boundary of New Hawkesbury Hundred to the Shag River.
And Whereas by virtue of the said powers I did by another Proclamation in the said Gazette dated the sixteenth day of January instant, Declare to be an Infected District within the meaning of the said Act, all that part of the said Province bounded towards the north by Allen’s Creek to its source, thence by a direct line to Trigonometrical Station O, Waikouaiti Survey District, thence towards the East by a direct line to Trigonometrical Station L, in the said Waikouaiti Survey District, and thence by a direct line to Brinns Point, thence towards the South by the ocean to the mouth of the Taieri River, and thence towards the West by the Taieri River, the Waipori Lake and the Waipori River to Verter burn, thence to Allen’s Creek, the starting point. Now, therefore, by virtue of the powers vested in me in that behalf I do make Publish and Proclaim the following Regulations for the destruction of Diseased Cattle in the Districts by the said Proclamations declared to be Infected Districts, and for Prohibiting the removal and transportation of Cattle out of the said Infected Districts respectively, and for preventing the further spread of the Disease called Pleuro-pneumonia.
REGULATIONS.
- That if any Inspector appointed under the “Diseased Cattle Act, 1861,” for the Infected Districts above described, shall at any time have reasonable grounds to suspect that any Cattle within the Infected Districts above described are Infected with Pleuro-pneumonia, or any other Infectious Disease, it shall be his duty and he is hereby authorised forthwith, or as soon as he conveniently can, to proceed to and enter into and upon the place whether inclosed or otherwise, where such Cattle are or are supposed by him to be and by inspecting such cattle or in any other manner shall satisfy himself whether such Cattle, or any of them, are infected, or may be reasonably suspected to be infected with Pleuro-Pneumonia or any other infectious disease, or whether the same are free from Pleuro-Pneumonia and other infectious disease.
