POSTAL

Alteration in Rates of Postage on Correspondence for the West Indies.

General Post Office,
Auckland, 26th October 1863.

THE following Despatch respecting Rates of Postage on Correspondence for Hayti is published for general information.

REABER WOOD,
For the Postmaster-General.

General Post Office,
London, 26th August 1863.

SIR,—I am directed by the Postmaster-General to inform you that, on the 1st September next, and thenceforward, the Postage upon Letters conveyed between the United Kingdom and Hayti will be increased from Sixpence to One Shilling the single rate (half an ounce), thus assimilating the rates of Postage on Correspondence for Hayti to the rates recently authorised to be levied upon Correspondence for British Colonies and Foreign Possessions in the West Indies, announced to you by my letter of the 19th March last.

In acquainting you with this alteration, I request that you will be good enough to cause credit to be given to this Department, in future, upon all letters for Hayti, transmitted via the United Kingdom, at the rates mentioned in my letter above referred to.

I have, &c.,
(Signed) F. HILL,
The Postmaster-General,
Auckland.
