VICTORIA by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Queen Defender of the Faith to ROBERT CHAPMAN of Dunedin in the Province of Otago New Zealand Registrar of the Supreme Court of New Zealand aforesaid Southern District Province of Otago SAMUEL JACOBS of Dunstan in the said Province Storekeeper and SOLOMON of Dunstan aforesaid Storekeeper GREETING: -

WHEREAS an action is now pending in our Supreme Court of New Zealand Southern District Province of Otago between Wolff Harris of Dunedin aforesaid Merchant plaintiff and Henry Jones late of Dunedin aforesaid Merchant defendant and in order that the plaintiff may proceed to the said action WE COMMAND you that you and each of you do retain and keep all and singular lands and other hereditaments monies and chattels bills bonds and other property of whatsoever nature in the custody or under the control of you or either of you at the time of the service of this writ belonging to the above-named defendant or to or in which such defendant shall at that time be legally or equitably entitled or otherwise beneficially interested and whether solely or jointly with any other person or persons and all debts of every kind then due by you or either of you to such defendant although the same or part thereof may be payable only at a future day: AND WE FURTHER COMMAND YOU that you and each of you in your own proper persons be and appear before such Judge of our said Court as shall be sitting at Chambers on Tuesday the nineteenth day of May one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three at ten o'clock in the forenoon then and there to be examined touching the premises and to do and receive what shall then and there be considered of you in that behalf and this you shall in nowise omit.

WITNESS: His Honor CHRISTOPHER WILLIAM RICHMOND Esquire (L.S.) Judge at Dunedin of our said Supreme Court of New Zealand this eighth day of May, A.D. 1863.

This Writ was issued by Thomas Ban-natyne Gillies, of Princes-street, Dunedin, Solicitor for the within-named Plaintiff.

Office of Registrar of Joint Stock Companies, Dunedin, 5th May, 1863.

I, MICHAEL CREAGH, Registrar of Joint Stock Companies, for the Provinces of Otago and Southland, do hereby notify that I have Registered a Memorandum of Association, with Articles of Association annexed, establishing a Company (with limited liability of the Shareholders therein) entitled the "Otago Steam Ship Company," (limited); the objects for which the said Company is established being "the conveyance of passengers and goods, in ships or boats, between such places as the Company may from time to time determine, and the doing all such other things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objects."

And I hereby further notify, that in pursuance of the provisions of the "Joint Stock Companies Act, 1860," I have issued a Certificate of Incorporation of the said Company, bearing date this Fifth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three.

ROCK IN BASS' STRAITS.

THE accompanying Notice to Mariners, respecting a Rock awash reported to exist in Bass' Straits, is published for the information of navigators and others.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.

Rock in Bass' Straits.

A rock awash having been reported to exist in Bass' Straits, about five or six miles to the E.N.E. of the Crocodile Rock, search for which has hitherto been unsuccessful, navigators are cautioned to keep a good look-out when in the neighborhood of its assigned position.

The undermentioned bearings have been given as the position of this supposed danger:—

Devil’s Tower, E. by S. ½ S., distant four miles.
Curtis Island, S. ½ E.
Rodondo Island, W.N.W.
Crocodile, W.S.W., distant between five and six miles.
The westernmost of the Monceurs Islands, just on with the westernmost land of Wilson’s Promontory.
