Secretary, keeping one copy for themselves, and giving the competitor one. The date of such certificate shall be deemed the day on which the claimant produced the forty tons of Merchandise required.

Whenever any quantity of flax is brought for inspection, satisfactory proof will have to be given to the Commissioners that no part of the flax has been already inspected by them.

One-half of the reward will be paid at once to any person whom the Governor, on the report of a Commission, shall declare in writing to be entitled to the same, after which no other claim to a reward of the same class will be entertained; and the other half of such reward will be paid upon satisfactory proof being given to the Governor, or his appointee in London, of the bona fide sale of twenty tons of the Merchandise in Europe, at an advance of not less than twenty per cent. upon the actual cost of the article landed in Europe.

All costs and expenses connected with the carriage to or removal from the place of inspection of any flax offered for inspection, and all other expenses, if any, connected therewith, to be borne by the competitor.

NOTICE.

Appointing a Station in Otago Harbor, for boarding vessels on arrival and departure.

I HEREBY give notice, that under the authority of Clause 14 of the Customs Regulation Act, 1858, I have appointed all that portion of the Harbor of Otago, situated between Acheron Head and Observation Point, in the said Harbor, to be a Station or place for Ships arriving at or departing from this Port to bring to for the boarding or landing of Officers of the Customs. And I further call attention to Clause 35 of the above recited Act, which declares that if any Ships coming into the Colony shall not come up as quickly to the proper place of mooring or unlading as the nature of the Port will admit, without touching at any other place, and in proceeding to such proper place shall not bring to at the Stations appointed by the Commissioner for the boarding of Ships by Officers of the Customs, or if the Master of any Ship, on board of which any Officer is stationed, neglect or refuse to provide every such Officer sufficient room under the deck in some part of the cabin, or steerage, or passenger deck, for his bed or hammock, the Master of such Vessel shall forfeit the sum of twenty pounds.

SUPREME COURT, OTAGO.—POSTPONEMENT OF CIVIL SITTINGS.—Notice is hereby given that the Sitting advertised to take place for the trial of Civil Cases, at Dunedin, on Monday, the 6th day of April next, will be postponed until Friday, the 15th day of May next; Common Jurors, Defendants, or Witnesses summoned to appear on the said 6th day of April, are not required to appear until the said 15th day of May next, at eleven o’clock in the forenoon.—ROBT.
