WARRANT

Appointing Commissioners to investigate Claims to Flax Rewards.

Grey, Knight Commander of
the Most Honourable Order of
the Bath, Governor and Com-
mander-in-Chief in and over
Her Majesty’s Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies,
and Vice-Admiral of the same,
&c., &c., &c.

To all to whom these Presents
shall come, Greeting:—

WHEREAS by Public Notice inserted
in the New Zealand Gazette upon
the thirteenth day of September, one
thousand eight hundred and sixty-one,
and subsequent dates, certain rewards
were offered to persons who should pro-
duce from the Phormium Tenax or other
fibrous plant indigenous to New Zealand,
certain quantities of Merchandise, subject
to the conditions therein set forth;

And whereas it is desirable to appoint
a Commission to receive and investigate
Claims to the Rewards above mentioned,
and to exercise the powers and perform
the duties relating to such Commission as
set forth in the said notice:

Now know ye, that I, Sir George Grey,
the Governor of the said Colony, do here-
by appoint

The Honourable Reader Gilson Wood,
Charles John Taylor, Esq., M.G.A.,
and
Charles Knight, Esq.,

to be Commissioners for the purposes afore-
said to act within the Province of Auck-
land, and to have, hold, and exercise all
the powers competent to them during my
pleasure.

Given under my hand, at the Go-
vernment House, at Auckland,

ORDER IN COUNCIL,

Bringing the “Crown Lands Act, 1862,
into operation.

Governor.

At the Government House, at Auckland,
the 28th day of February, 1863.

Present —
His Excellency the Governor in Council.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General
Assembly of New Zealand, intituled
The Crown Lands Act, 1862,” it is en-
acted that the said Act shall come into
operation in each Province of New Zealand
on and from a day to be fixed by the Go-
vernor in Council, to be notified in the
Government Gazette of the Colony, and
also of the Province to which such notifi-
cation shall apply:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the
Governor, with the advice and consent of
the Executive Council of New Zealand,
doth hereby order that the “Crown Lands
Act, 1862,
” shall come into operation
within each of the after-mentioned Pro-
vinces of New Zealand, namely,—the Pro-
vinces of Auckland, Wellington, Hawke’s
Bay, Taranaki, Nelson, Marlborough,
Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, on
and from the sixth day of April next.

Governor’s Assent withheld from Bill,
Otago.

THE following Bill, passed by the Pro-
vincial Council of Otago, intituled

The Unimproved Land Ordinance,
1862,

which Bill was reserved for the signifi-
cation of the Governor’s pleasure thereon,
having been laid before the Governor, His
Excellency has been pleased to withhold
his assent to the same.

IT is hereby notified, that in pursuance
of the provisions of the “Miners’
Representation Act, 1862,” His Excel-
lency the Governor in Council has ap-
pointed a stamp bearing the words “Miner’s
Franchise Exercised,” at each election, as
the distinguishing mark or stamp to be
impressed upon every Miner’s Right, in
respect of which any person shall vote at
such election.
