PROCLAMATION

Of a Public Pound for the Northern Parts of Dunedin.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance “to authorise and regulate the Impounding of Cattle,” passed by the Lieutenant-Governor and Legislative Council of New Zealand, it is enacted inter alia that it shall be lawful for His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand, when and as often as he may deem necessary, and at such places and for such districts as may appear convenient, to erect and maintain suitable premises to be established as Public Pounds, for the purposes of the said Ordinance: And Whereas by virtue of the “Empowering Ordinance, 1854,” passed by the Superintendent and Provincial Council of Otago, the powers conferred on the Governor in this behalf are, in so far as respects the Province of Otago, conferred on the Superintendent thereof:

And Whereas it is necessary for the greater convenience of the Northern parts of Dunedin and neighbourhood that a Public Pound be erected at the place aforementioned;

Now therefore, I, John Larkins Cheese Richardson, as Superintendent of the Province of Otago, and by virtue of the powers vested in me as aforesaid, do hereby proclaim and declare that allotment of land situated in the angle between Park-street and Regent Road a Public Pound, for the purposes of the aforesaid Impounding Ordinance.

Given under my hand at Dunedin, and issued under the Public Seal of the Province of Otago, this (L.S.) tenth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-two.
