And whereas the said Thomas Gore Browne sailed for Sydney, in New South Wales, on the 2nd day of October, now instant, and is now absent from the said Colony and its Dependencies:

Now, therefore, I, Sir George Grey, do hereby proclaim and declare, that I have this day taken the prescribed Oaths, and assumed the administration of the Government of the said Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies: And I hereby call upon all Officers, Ministers, Civil and Military, and all other inhabitants of the said Colony, and all other persons whom it may concern, to be aiding and assisting me herein.

Given under my hand, at the Government House, at Auckland, and issued under the Seal of the Colony of New Zealand, this 3rd day of October, in the year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and sixty-one.

James Waddell and Hugh McLeod

to be Registrars of Marriages, and of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, for the Districts of East Taieri, and Warepa respectively.

These appointments to bear date from the 1st January, 1862.

Sr. John Brannigan, Chief Officer of Police, in the Province of Otago,
has been appointed to institute proceedings for certain offences against the “Arms Act, 1860.”

This appointment bears date from 5th September, 1861.

CUSTOMS.

Governor’s Order No. 16, appointing Port of Molyneux.

By His Excellency Sir George Grey, Knight, Commander of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath, Administrator of the Government of the Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, &c., &c.

In exercise of the power in me for this purpose vested by the “Customs Regulation Act, 1858,” I, Sir George Grey, the Administrator of the Government of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby appoint that on and from the day of the date hereof there shall be within the Province of Otago a Port to be called the Port of Molyneux, the limits whereof shall be as follows:—

“Extending from the mouth of the Puerua River along the Clutha River and the Ocean Beach, as far as the boundary between Sections 6 and 7, Block VII, South Molyneux,

and inclining the spaces reserved for the Township of Molyneux.”

His Excellency the Administrator of the Government has been pleased to appoint

Mr. Robert Johnson

to be a Mail Agent and Inspector of Steam Vessels carrying Her Majesty’s Mails under contract with the Admiralty, dated 28th May, 1858.

This appointment to date from 9th November, instant.
